Approximately 170,000 women are living with metastatic breast cancer in the United States with the rate of new metastatic female breast cancer cases on the rise. Today, on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, we want to highlight the realities of Stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer and those who are currently fighting brave battles. While some of our passengers only require a single flight, many have to travel regularly for ongoing treatments, surgery follow ups, and clinical trials. Linda is an amazing woman who flew her first mission with us in 2018. For the past 8 years, Angel Flight South Central has served as a lifeline for her, connecting her from her home in Blue Mountain, MS (population 996) to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her most recent flight with long-time volunteer pilot Joel Mack marked her 148th trip and we are so thankful that we have been able to assist her with her journey. Half The Cure Is Getting There.

While Angel Flight South Central's service area is TX, AR, NM, LA, and OK, those in need often need to travel long distances for care. Because it is ALL ABOUT the passengers, Angel Flight South Central often partners with fellow public benefit flying organizations when flights cross service areas to ensure everyone has access to care, regardless of where they live. We recently partnered with Angel Flight Soars, Inc. to make great things happen! SASpine HALF THE CURE IS GETTING THERE ❤️

It’s a big moment for Ashley—her first flight with the Angels!

After extensive research, she discovered a specialist in Houston, TX for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This rare disorder can take decades to diagnose; Ashley received hers at 40.

Commercial flights were too pricey and driving from Memphis would be tough. Once finding out that she could travel with volunteer pilots to get to the surgery she needs, she found hope!

Thanks to volunteer pilots with Angel Flight Soars and Angel Flight South Central, she now has hope for life-changing surgery at SASpine!

Not all heroes wear capes, some have wings! Kameron is 13-years old and lives in City of Lubbock. He has a rare genetic disorder (only occurs occur in about 1 in 50,000 births) and he has to travel to Children's Medical Center Dallas to see a specialist. Thanks to veteran volunteer pilot, and Angel Flight South Central board member Scott Gloyna, Kameron and his mom got to Dallas and back with ease! The only thing more powerful than hate is love. America saw true hatred and evil the morning of 9/11, but then we immediately saw love. A love for fellow Americans that would fuel our hearts and souls through rescue, recovery, and rebuilding. May the love we saw on 9/11 be what you choose every day.

Have you ever had someone come into your life that truly changes it? That is what Don Cope has done for Angel Flight South Central. He has changed us. He joined as a volunteer pilot in 2005 and has never looked back. Don currently serves as the wing leader for Arkansas (onboarding new pilots and providing ongoing guidance) as well as the chief wing leader (providing leadership and guidance to each of our regional wing leaders). He does all this AND flies mission!! Recently, he helped get long-time passenger Dana home to Arkansas from UT MD Anderson Cancer Center following treatment. THANK YOU DON! Love you Dana!
