Promote the use of personal locator beacons (PLBs) for U.S. offshore workers Due to the long awaited adoption of PLBs by more U.S. Their EIN is 87-2879488.

companies and therefore the overly complex and cumberson expectation of a Federally designated 501c3 charity(which we are) to verify offshore worker PLB need, we are no longer providing free PLBs and instead we are focusing our limited resources on promoting their adoption within all U.S. offshore companies and encouraging those currently employed or hoping to to be employed in the U.S. offshore industry to only work with a company that confirms they provide them to all their employees going out to sea. Jason's Beacon was formed as a nonprofit in Texas by the mother, sister, and aunt of one of the Seacor Power disaster's seven missing crewmen, Jason Krell our namesake. They are a Federal 501c3 tax exempt nonprofit. A PLB-personal locator beacon works by sending a signal within seconds of manually being activated to a network of search and rescue satellites that notify search and rescue operations, such as the US Coast Guard, of a person's GPS location. We learned through the Seacor Power disaster that finding individuals lost at sea is extremely difficult and too often unsuccessful. That the vast majority of U.S. offshore workers are not provided life saving PLBs by the companies they work for, to wear while they are in transport by boat and on locations working offshore, and the devices are cost prohibitive for many individual workers but not at a discount for bulk corporate buyers. During our first five years, Jason's Beacon, through generous donations from others, was able to purchase and gift over 400 PLBs to US offshore workers and advocate to employers to adopt PLBs as standard safety devices for all offshore employees. We have celebrated during this 5 year period when the company Fugro implemented PLBs for their U.S. offshore employees in 2022 and we learned that Wind Energy companies were already requiring PLBs be worn on their employees. Now after 5 years of advocacy, we're hearing that additional U.S. offshore companies are doing the right thing and voluntarily adopting PLBs as standard safety devices.

WARNING-WATCHING THIS MAY BE TOO INTENSE FOR THOSE WHO SURVIVED AND/OR LOST LOVED ONES IN THE SEACOR POWER DISASTER ON APRIL 13, 2021.

Each anniversary I've thought about sharing this intense video made by shrimpers during the storm that capsized the Seacor Power and delayed rescue efforts, but was concerned it would cause too much pain so didn't. After 5 years now, I decided it is a good reminder of the extreme storm that managed to catch everyone who was off the coast of Louisiana that afternoon by surprise. The NTSB even uses this day and the loss of life from the Seacor Power as one of several justifications for their recommendation that the U.S. Coast Guard make PLBs mandatory.
If the chain of events that caused this intense storm to catch so many seasoned seafarers off guard that day, I'm thinking it could happen again. Please don't go out to sea without a PLB on your body! Stay safe out there. ~ Debbie, Jason's Aunt and Jason's Beacon President

In addition to saving lives by promoting the use of PLBs and taking donations to then buy PLBs for qualified U.S. offshore workers, our mission includes sharing the latest evidence based grief recovery with families of deceased and missing loved ones. That's why we have an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist on our Advisory Board, Rhonda Frachiseur. Rhonda and her knowledge of the Grief Recovery Method helped us immensely, in the aftermath of the Seacor Power disaster, to see through so many myths and falsehoods out in society about grief and the process of grief and she continues to give us a level set on whatever we're still going through. It just so happens that Rhonda has suffered the tragic death of one of her sons and has also experienced a family member who went missing in the Gulf as well. We couldn't be happier than getting this picture from Bubba wearing his new PLB on the job. His life and safety matters to us and our donors! We pray he never has to use this life-saving device but we are so happy he has it in case he does.
We would like to encourage each and every offshore company in the United States to start providing these critical devices to all their employees they send out to sea for work. Making PLBs a part of their standard PPE is completely doable, no excuses, just ask Fugro!

While our waitlist is a long one, requiring recipients to wait quite awhile, if it wasn't for our dedicated donors we wouldn't be able to gift any PLBs at all. Because of them, someday they may very well be responsible for saving a life. I know seeing this picture really encourages them!
