The Santana Center

The Santana Center We are a 501 c3 nonprofit center for equine rescue, adoption and community education and outreach.

Our Activities include:

- Providing information about horses and the horse community through research, seminars, workshops and classes, and outreach material

-Rehabilitation of rescue horses

-Working to create a horse community by establishing partnerships between horse owners and service providers (government, university and private entities). These partnerships will enhance and improve the lives of horses in Rhode Island.

Pilot, our horse of the month,could not be more grateful to be here and full of life. I fully acknowledge that I love palominos…but honestly he is absolutely stunning with that deep copper color and light mane and tail. Maybe this year will be his year to find his forever home.

We don’t get a chance to work with Dahlia as much as we would like to but today was her day to shine. She is a smart girl that wants to learn. Still filling out but measures about 14.1. Will be a stunning large pony. About 4 years old.

Someone is now a teenager!! 13 looks good on you Bubbles! Come by today and give her a birthday scratch or treat. Bubbles is our “outreach coordinator” and is the first horse volunteers get to work with as she loves attention. Happy Birthday little girl! (Ps.she hates long fly masks and won’t let you put sunscreen on her nose-these are from last summer, she did better this summer).

We have been reluctant to post this special boy. When you get a horse so young and so mistreated and work with them for 4 years, and watch them become beautiful trusting horses, it’s hard to let them go. However, Pooh Bear will be 6 at the end of this year and is ready to become the best horse he can be. We just don’t have the time to give him what he needs, which is a lot more hands on and consistent work. He is unknown breed, looks like Spirit, around 14.2, loves to do tricks and is super smart! He is insecure with new things so slow and consistent allows him to think it through, so training experience is a must. UTD on everything. He deserves to have his own person and to have a great life where he gets to experience new things. He will be your heart horse.

Available for adoption. Pilot is a survivor from a shipping pen. It’s hard to believe that someone did not love this horse in the past but we will never know how he ended up there. It takes a little while for him to warm up to you but when he does, he has the most amazing personality full of cute quirks. He would be a spectacular horse to have in your pasture. We are not listing him as a riding horse as he gets very nervous under saddle. He loves liberty work and is flawless in flag work.UTD everything, great for vet, farrier, dentist. Exact age unknown but late teens, early twenties is best guess. Gets along with everyone and still loves to play halter tag. He so deserves to have a loving home with his person.
