These Girls are much more likely to marry early and contract AIDS, continuing the cycle of poverty Enable Africa children foundation has put across the need for the introduction of this project which is meant to help the young girls within the communities in Uganda especially those forced to be in streets because of poverty, neglect, death of parents, abused, peer groups and also those in remote a
reas and in refugee camps, victimized cases like r**e, teenagers
Uganda being a country which is 80% youth meaning majority of the people here are young coupled with the income per capita of about $35 a month which has made it impossible for them to be able to afford sanitary pads by the due course of the day an issue which has generally worried us because most of these girls have resorted to using news papers, clothes, rugs, which are unhealthy, uncomfortable, dangerous, shameful and generally discouraged. We as EACF have therefore gone ahead to supply sanitary pads to more than 100 young girls aged above 12 years within the community of NALUSUGGA where we are involved in our activities. Our target for the start is to help more than 100 girls though we are expecting to provide for over 300 of them by the start of the 2nd quarter of the year. Therefore we shall be giving out quite a great number since our target is to see majority of the girls access this help. This project will be aimed therefore to provide for the girls sanitary pads and enable them overcome this battle and terrible night mare to majority impoverished daughters of ours. We therefore call upon you to support this cause and empower these girls to protect themselves in this fateful time of the month. Also to make this more possible and a success, we as ENABLE-ARICA CHILDREN FOUNDATION have decide to embrace the making of re-washable towels or pads for the girls simply because they are easy to handle and also have a durability of about 6-12 months to be changed since they are actually re-washed whenever stained with blood. Secondly they are very affordable and cheaper compared to the sanitary pads. In so doing this, we intend to empower more than 1000 girls and women through this initiative by accessing these pads from our premises and stores monthly. Through employing some of the local women in our community to participate fully in the tailoring work or their manufacturing process as an occupation to earn a living rather than depend 100% on agriculture or their meager salaries. We also intend to sensitize young girls and women on the importance of the re-washable sanitary towels since most of them could not be familiar with this kind of re-washable pads. However we believe their response will be great enough to acknowledge them and appreciate their use and importance. ENABLE-AFRICA CHILDREN FOUNDATION invites all of you friends, colleagues, partners, donors, sponsors and well wishers to stand with us to support this life transforming initiative which is meant to change the lives of many children teenagers and grown up women in all respective angles of life, remote areas and streets.
