Slowly but surely, we continue our Family Engagement activities in the Nauner neighborhood as part of our Community Engagement initiative, walking more closely with the people we serve.

Last week, the CSDO team visited 6 households, reaching 9 families with a total of 34 family members. Through these visits, we continue to strengthen relationships and accompany families in their daily lives.

Through training and formation, we seek to empower communities, especially in caring for their water supply systems and other natural resources within their villages. By strengthening local knowledge and responsibility, we hope communities can sustainably manage and protect the resources that support their daily lives.

As part of introducing the mission of Jesuit Social Service, we also shared the fundamentals of Ignatian Spirituality and how its values can be integrated into our daily lives and work, inspiring us to care for one another and for our common home.

We would also like to express our gratitude to our collaborators, TILOFE and MAG+S Timor-Leste, for facilitating these formation sessions.

The Cooking Demo initiative is not just about preparing meals together; it is also an opportunity for mothers to gather with the Feeding Program team to learn and share about the importance of nutritious food for children’s growth and development, as well as practical ways to prepare it.

Through this space, we seek not only to support the nutritional well-being of children but, more importantly, to empower mothers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide healthy and nutritious meals for their families.

In this Cooking Demo activity, 15 mothers and 29 children aged five years and under participated.

Even though many of the mobile clinic areas are regularly visited, the journey to some communities still carries many challenges and risks, especially because of difficult road conditions. Despite these obstacles, we continue bringing mobile clinic services to reach community members who cannot easily access medical consultations at clinics in the village centers.

Some updates from our Centro Saúde Daniel Ornelas (CSDO) – Kasait over the past two weeks: besides providing medical consultations and ambulatory treatment at the clinic, we also continued our community engagement activities through health promotion sessions at the clinic, schools, and communities. In addition, we carried out mobile clinic services for community members who were unable to attend consultations at the clinic.

We continue our routine mobile clinic activities through the Clínica Na’in Feto Virgem Maria (CNFVM) team in Railaco, serving communities around Railaco as well as some areas in Aileu and Liquiça. Through medical assistance, we continue accompanying communities with the joy of service spirit in every encounter and activity.

Last week (May 19–21, 2026), the CNFVM team visited the communities of Leorema, Ermeta, and Lebaloa.

The ABCD facilitation training continues to expand. Last week, the Food Security team visited the Caitara-hei community in Fatuquero village to continue meeting with community members and facilitate discussions on identifying and recognizing the assets already present within their community.

Through this initiative, we aim to empower communities by strengthening their sense of ownership and appreciation for their own resources, encouraging them to become active agents of development within their own community.

Around 130 families in Alas – Manufahi, from communities such as Weberek, Colocau, Trans Mota Ibun, Lafaek Hasan, and Wekakau Oan, were affected by flooding caused by several days of heavy rain last week. The flooding damaged many houses, crops, rice fields, and livestock.

In response to the urgent needs of the affected communities, Jesuit Social Service brought food and other basic necessities to Manufahi to support the victims of the disaster. Although we faced difficulties, especially with road access to some communities, we are grateful for the strong collaboration with the parishes in Alas, which helped ensure that the assistance reached the families in need.

We are also deeply grateful to the donors, friends, and everyone who helped from the preparation stage to the transportation of goods from Dili to Manufahi. We continue to pray for all the people and communities affected by the disaster, that they may receive the support and assistance needed to ease their suffering.
