Join us in congratulating our students who recently received their National Primary School Examination (NPSE) results. In June, 21 children from The Raining Season’s Preparatory School, including Esther K., Teange, Alex, and Esther L., took the National Primary School Examination (NPSE). We are excited to share that each child passed and will begin Junior Secondary School in just a few weeks!

In June, the addition of two new wheelchairs meant new opportunities for two of our children with special needs, Kadie and Mia.

A special donor provided funds specifically so that Kadie could receive a wheelchair. A wheelchair for Kadie will give her greater independence and make it easier for her to get out of the Hope Apartment and participate in activities throughout the compound. She has even spent time coloring in the same space where the other children spend time playing outside!

World Hope International generously donated Mia’s new wheelchair. Mia’s new wheelchair is quite different from a traditional wheelchair. It has a sturdy metal frame with one wheel in the front and two wheels in the back. When they delivered the wheelchair, World Hope International made modifications and adjustments so that it would fit Mia securely and meet her specific needs. Because her body is supported so well, Mia’s posture and head control improved noticeably while she was sitting in the chair.

We are incredibly grateful to the special donor who provided the funds that made Kadie’s wheelchair possible. We are also thankful to World Hope International for donating Mia’s wheelchair and taking the time to make the modifications needed to fit her securely. We are grateful that the Lord continues to work through others to provide for the needs of our children. What a blessing it is to see Him use the generosity and compassion of others to bring new possibilities and joy to the children of The Raining Season.

When a team travels to The Covering, they leave a lasting impact that extends far beyond the days they spend in Sierra Leone. Thanks to the generosity of our June team and the additional funds they raised specifically to meet needs at The Raining Season, several meaningful projects were completed that will benefit our children, staff, and school for years to come.

One of the largest projects was the construction of a new storage shed in the yard near the kitchen. New dishes, bowls, cups, and other kitchen essentials were purchased for each apartment and every child also received a brand-new pair of sandals. Additional purchases included tires for three TRS vehicles, televisions, DVD players, extension cords, fans, and a printer as well as bright educational posters and alphabet carpets for some of the classrooms in the TRS school.

Did you know that Sierra Leone is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in West Africa? One of the country’s most popular destinations is River No. 2 Beach, located along the Freetown Peninsula. With its soft sand, palm trees, and beautiful waters, it is easy to see why both locals and visitors love spending the day there.

River No. 2 Beach is especially unique because it is where a river flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The warm and gentle waters make it a great place for swimming, wading, and enjoying God’s beautiful creation.

Through the years, many of our teams have visited River No. 2 Beach with the children from The Covering for beach day. For the children, it is a special day filled with laughter, games, and time to simply enjoy being kids. They love splashing in the water, playing in the sand, soccer on the beach, and making memories with the teams.

When The Raining Season’s June team traveled to Sierra Leone, each school-age child at The Covering received the special gift of a devotional book and a personalized letter written just for them.

The project was organized by June team leader Lisa Rippy, who wanted every child to know they are seen, loved, and prayed for by people they have never even met. As Lisa began packing for her trip, she came across two devotional books she had previously purchased for girls at The Covering. That simple discovery sparked an idea. She knew she needed to bring a devotional book for every girl, which turned into getting one for every boy, too!

Just two days before leaving for Freetown, Lisa brought a photo of every school-age child to her Bible study and asked if the women would write a short note of encouragement to a child. The response was an enthusiastic yes! With more than forty children, she also invited neighbors and family members to join the project, and together they made sure every child received a handwritten letter created especially for them.

Birthdays at The Raining Season have become something our children look forward to. This week, we are looking back at our very first birthday celebration.

Nearly 15 years ago, we hosted our very first birthday celebration. It may have seemed like a simple party, but it represented something much bigger. It was a way of telling each child, “Your life matters. You are loved. You are worth celebrating.”

Since opening its doors to the community in the fall of 2022, The Raining Season Preparatory School has continued to grow into a thriving school community. Today, the school serves more than 130 children from both The Raining Season and the surrounding community, providing a quality education. This past fall, the school expanded to include junior secondary students. Under the leadership of Pastor Sam Laggah, students continue to learn, grow, and prepare for bright futures.

On June 27, students, families, teachers, and community members gathered to celebrate another exciting milestone at the school’s annual graduation ceremony. This year’s celebration honored students moving from Nursery 3 to Grade 1 and from Grade 6 to Junior Secondary School.
