S*K Foundation was initially established as a Maconteh self-help project by Mr. Santigie I Kargbo a philanthropist who was born in the said chiefdom. The projects aimed at assisting deprived children, youths and women in the Chiefdom with essential input to our self-help.
During its early years, Mr. Santigie I Kargbo Self-help project had supported and is still supporting children, women, youths and even the old in the chiefdom and beyond and later extended operations in Kambia districts also in the Northern Province. Mr. Santigie I Kargbo saw the deplorable life his people are living, the lack in basic needs, the dropout of children from schools, the disconnection of towns and villages due to poor road network warranted his thirst to take the bold step in bringing the people together in owning their development and future.
Over the years S.I.Kargbo started integrated support to embracing long-term health, sanitation, relief aid and agricultural services aimed at improving the living conditions of project beneficiaries especially women, children and marginalized youth. In 2019 the self-help project is transforming into a foundation and registered as a Nom Government Organization (NGO) to incorporate relief and health program through advocacy and charity. Our focus shifted to tackling the root causes of poverty, and not dealing with the symptoms. S*K Foundation sees the poor as deprived and marginalized individuals, families and local communities who cannot adequately meet their basic requirement for survival on a sustainable basis. In these communities the situation is further compounded by lack of social security i.e government is unable to augment the needs of the people. Among these communities basic requirement such as daily balanced nutrition, decent clothing, and safe and clean drinking water, affordable health care services, decent housing and basic education are lacking.
As a result of the above stated challenges, however the most severely affected groups include the following: – children, youths, women including widows, single mothers, age women and the physical challenged.
Considering the fact that these interventions do not adequately address the numerous problems of poverty; S*K Foundation has decided to become a specialized Institution that will address the perpetual problem of self-sufficiency in families through CHARITY. It is against this background that S*K Foundation strategic plan was conceive and developed.
