The Sierra Leone Cricket Association is the official governing body of cricket in Sierra Leone and is an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council, Full Member of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA), Full Member of the North West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC) , a Member of the National Sport Council of Sierra Leone and the national Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone. The organisation

was established during November, 1942 but gained the status of being Affiliate Member of the ICC in 2000. Prior to these dates, cricket was first documented to be introduced to Sierra Leone by the British Royal Artillery forces during 1898 at the Parade field and in 1922 at the Kingtom cricket oval which is known as the Home of cricket in Sierra Leone. The first documented international fixture is dated to have taken place during 1931 when Sierra Leone played the Gambia on a home and away basis.

Over 4,000 Girls from 10 Schools Exhibiting Cricket Skills During CSL's Western Urban Women's Cricket Celebration

On Friday, 22nd May 2026, Cricket Sierra Leone will mark the end of its four-day Women's Cricket Celeration in the Westetn Urban using the Criiio programme.

The celebration will bring together ten teams for the Inter-School Criiio Cup after the Inter-House variant was held on Wednesday.

Fifty well-trained development officers have been busy rolling out this event.

The Western Rural, targeting 3, 520 across eight schools, is next in line.

National Senior Men's Cricket Team Depart Sierra Leone for Gaborone ICC Men's World Cup Africa Qualifier

The National Senior Men's Team (Men's Patriots) has departed Sierra Leone today to register participation at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier A scheduled for May 23, through June 1, 2026 in Gaborone Botswana.

The senior side will open the tournament against host Botswana on Saturday to commence battle to secure one of two qualification slots.

The nation will play six high-profile matches in the ten-day ICC Men's showpiece, facing Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Botswana, Kenya, Mali, and Rwanda.

On May 24, the Men's Patriots will take on Cameroon before facing bull dogs Kenya on May 26.

Sierra Leone has intensified workouts to secure a World Cup slot in this Gaborone engagement.

Sierra Leone Commences 27-Day Women's Cricket Celebration, Targeting over 38,000 Girls Countrywide

Cricket Sierra Leone has commenced 27-day celebration Women's Cricket during the ICC Women's Week, targeting thirty-eight thousand four hundred girls from ninety-six schools in eleven districts and five regions.

Fifty well-trained development officers will deliver this CSL's participation-driven programme.

Commencing today, the programme will target ten girls' schools (three primary and seven secondary) in the Western Urban Area, with the first day devoted to cricket-awareness activity.

The second day will witness coaching clinic and inter-house cricket competition while the third day will mark the end of that competition before the Inter-School Criiio Cup Festival will pull all participating schools to a collective celebration on the fourth day.

This Western Area Urban variant will target 4,400 girls while the Western Rural 3, 520 across eight schools.

The whole endeavour aims to massively co-opt the highest number of female participants into the game and to make cricket the second sport with enduring followership after football in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone's Ibrahim Kabia Joins ICC Umpire Development Panel B

Sierra Leone's Ibrahim Kabia has been appointed to the prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) Umpire Development Panel B Africa for a two-year term effective May 2026 to May 2028.

This appointment has granted him the opportunity to ump in ICC sanctioned tournaments, making him the fourth Sierra Leonean to reach that level.

He is an ICC certified Umpire level 1 tutor.

He is one of several umpires the Francis Trevor Samura-led administration has empowered.

Having been trained and certified by Cricket Sierra Leone in May 2025, he was nominated to proceed to oveeseas training alongside colleague John Bangura in Accra Ghana in June 2025. Both were trained and certified as ICC Umpire Level 1 tutors.

He then went through rigorious interview which led to his appointment to the ICC Umpire Development Panel B Africa.

CSL Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura was the first to be apppointed to the panel in 2018.

Kabia is a former Sierra Leone U17 and U19 national cricket captain, former Patriots of Sierra Leone National Cricket player and current Head of the Sierra Leone Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association.

The Board and Management of Cricket Sierra Leone congratulate him for such a remarkable achievement and wish him well in his new international umpire career. It encourages other local umpires to take the field seriously so as to help Sierra Leone increase its representation on the panel.

Youngest Female Cricketer Joins Thousands at NPSE 2026

Sierra Leone's youngest female cricketer Kumba Mansaray, 14, is among over one hundred thousand candidates who sat to the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) on Saturday.

Mansaray was part of Sierra Leone's U19 squad that participated in the ICC Under-19 Women's T20 Cricket World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in Kampala Uganda March this year.
