Marie Stopes Sierra Leone

Marie Stopes Sierra Leone Marie Stopes Sierra Leone is the leading women's wellness provider and the country's most experienced

Marie Stopes Sierra Leone started providing services in 1986 and is one of the oldest programmes in the Marie Stopes International partnership. We have a long and proud history in the country and are known locally as “de mammy fo welbodi” or “the mother of health”. The programme continued to work through both the decade long civil war (the only NGO to do so) and the 2015 Ebola outbreak. The country continues to face many challenges: life expectancy is just 45 and the country has one of the world’s highest rates of maternal mortality. Marie Stopes Sierra Leone is the country’s largest family planning organisation, with teams working in every one of the country’s 14 districts and providing more than half of all contraception. Despite all of the progress in the country, just 21% of women aged 15-49 are using a method of modern contraception.

Let’s tell you what we were up to last weekend… because we have stories! 😄💙 Part 1.

For World Contraception Day, we joined UNFPA Sierra Leone at Kroo Bay to talk about something every woman deserves: the power to choose.

We shared information about contraceptive options, answered questions and supported women to make informed choices about their health and future.

Every conversation matters. Sometimes, having someone listen and explain your options is the first step towards making a choice with confidence.

Thank you to UNFPA Sierra Leone and the women of Kroo Bay for sharing this day with us. 💙

Your health, your choice, your future.

Stay close… Part 2 is all about our team retreat! 👀

Dijah asked, and we answered! 😊

After taking the contraceptive injection, you may be advised to wait for seven days or use a condom during that period to give the method enough time to become fully effective.
