TODAY, LET’S TALK ABOUT ALHAJI SAM SUMANA FOR APC, 2023
Growing up in a chief compound in Kono, I had the privilege of spending a lot of time with Alhaji Chief Sam Sumana. Long before he was elected Vice President of Sierra Leone, he shared his life experiences, wisdom, and advice with me like a grandfather guiding a young man.
He would often call me Kono Chief 😂 and over the years, he has continued to show genuine interest in my growth and development as a young person.
That is why I was extremely happy when he told me about his decision to return to the All People’s Congress (APC) and support the party in its determination to win the next general election.
One thing I have come to understand about Chief Sam Sumana is that, for him, position is not everything. He intends to seek the APC presidential symbol, and his position is clear: if given the opportunity to lead the party, he believes he can help change the narrative and provide a new direction. But if another candidate wins the party’s confidence, he is prepared to support the APC and work for its victory.
That spirit of putting the bigger picture above personal ambition is important for the unity and progress of our party.
Many people may also not know about Chief Sam Sumana’s recognition with a Global Peace Award. From my personal interactions with him, I have seen someone who strongly believes in peace, reconciliation, national dialogue, and resolving differences through engagement rather than confrontation.
My relationship with Chief Sam Sumana goes beyond politics. It is rooted in Kono, in my upbringing, and in the guidance and encouragement he has given me over the years.
As Sierra Leone looks toward the future, I believe our politics must increasingly be about peace, unity, dialogue, service, and putting country above personal interests.
From the young man he called “Kono Chief” to today, I remain grateful for the wisdom and encouragement.
