Jewish Book Festival: Saba-Nur Cheema, Meron Mendel and Elisabeth Åsbrink ’Living Together in Time of Polarization’. Concluding two intense days that brought together fantastic authors and thinkers from Sweden and abroad, and presented in-depth conversations and new perspectives. Eloge to you, dear audience, who stayed with us throughout the journey. We opened the festival in Hungary 1944 and immersed in great literature and texts by all participants, to conclude with Saba-Nur and Meron, an abundance of humanism and hope. Save the dates for next year’s festival 22-23/5. The conversation continues. .scheja .cheema

Jewish Book Festival: Connecting Authors and Thinkers Worldwide. Meet Shalom Auslander in conversation with Ricki Neuman on ’Feh: A Memoir’. Auslander’s 2007 memoir ’Foreskin’s lament’ narrates his struggle to break from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community of Monsey, New York. ’Feh’ both revisits and expands on Auslander’s lament about the emotional and physical wounds inflicted by an extreme religious ideology that presumes mankind to be fallen by nature. This is the story he has been told from an early age, that he is fallen, broken, shameful. ’Feh’ follows Auslander’s midlife journey to rewrite that story. Shalom Auslander is internationally acclaimed, award winning writer of fiction, non-fiction, stage, TV and film. He has published fiction and essays in the New Yorker and The New York Times, Esquire, GQ, among many others. He is currently adapting ’Foreskin’s Lament’ and ’Hope: A Tragedy’ for the stage, the former in London, the latter in New York City. Auslander will speak on Sunday 24/5 at 17:00, Konstakademien. The festival spans throughout the weekend 23-24/5. Tickets: billetto.se Program: judiskkultur.se Warm welcome. .scheja

Meet Meron Mendel and Saba-Nur Cheema in conversation with Elisabeth Åsbrink ’Living Together in Time of Polarization’. Cheema’s family comes from Pakistan, she grew up in a socially disadvantaged neighbourhood in Frankfurt. Mendel was born in Israel, raised on a Kibbutz. Now, as a married couple, they look together at an increasingly polarized world and reflect on it.
