FOLLOW€ – The Money Kicks Off at the Historic Frantsila Retreat Center.

We are excited to launch FOLLOW€ – The Money at the historic Frantsila Retreat Center and Farm in Hämeenkyrö, Finland. Dating back to the 1700s, Frantsila has been a center for natural well-being and holistic thinking for more than 40 years, providing a unique setting for reflection, collaboration, and innovation.

FOLLOW€ – The Money is a research and documentary project that investigates the transnational financial flows linked to the recruitment, migration, and deskilling of Filipino nurses recruited to Finland. Through a multidisciplinary "follow-the-money" approach, the project aims to make visible the economic structures, power relations, and human experiences embedded in international nurse recruitment.

We are proud to bring together a diverse team of experts:

🔹 Tiina Vaittinen – Chief Investigator; expert in political science and social science, specializing in global health, care, and migration.
🔹 Floro Cubelo – Nursing Science Expert, focusing on nurse migration, workforce integration, and recognition of the qualification and credentialing pathway of internationally educated nurses (IENs).
🔹 Margarita Meg Sakilayan-Latvala – Social Science Expert, contributing expertise in migration, social justice, and transnational communities.
🔹 Bonn Juego – Political Economist, examining the political and economic structures shaping labor migration and recruitment.
🔹Linda Bäckman – Linguistic and Integration Expert, focusing on language, communication, and the integration experiences of internationally educated professionals.
🔹 Jaakko Jaskari – Documentary Film Director, leading the project's visual storytelling and documentary production.

We are also pleased to welcome Jam Espada, a Master of Public Health student at the University of Turku, who joins the project team and contributes to its growing interdisciplinary collaboration.

Together, we aim not only to trace financial flows but also to identify pathways toward more ethical and equitable approaches to international nurse recruitment and care.

Additionally, you’ll gain essential knowledge about monitoring the patient’s condition, evaluating transfusion response, and recognizing possible adverse effects.

This presentation will also help you prepare for and pass the blood transfusion examination in Finland as part of the LOVE/Medieco exam which is a standardized national online medication competency examination and training platform used throughout Finland.

The Filipino Nurses Association in the Nordic Region (FiNAN ry) has been awarded a Moniheli ry Microgrant 2026 to implement an open dialogue “The Well-being and Rights of Filipino Nurses in Finland (FILHOVO).” The initiative aims to strengthen awareness of workers’ rights, well-being, and available support services among Filipino nurses working across Finland.

As part of the project, FiNAN will organize two open dialogue and information sessions- one in Southern Finland (Helsinki, September 4, 2026) and another in Northern Finland (Rovaniemi, November 7, 2026).
