An apple barn in the Swedish countryside: a setting just perfect for a day of big thinking about the future of food. This year, we moved our annual Food Planet Prize Talks from Stockholm to Båstad, a small seaside town in southern Sweden, in search of a more intimate space to discuss the challenges and possible solutions reshaping our food systems.

Cider barrels were set aside to make room for what mattered: bold ideas, honest conversations, celebration of our 2026 finalists and the winner, and updates from former winners on the progress they’ve made.

The challenges we’re facing are too big for any one of us to solve, but that’s no reason not to try, and every reason to try together. Collective effort, inspiration, and a bit of morale for the founders of breakthrough startups doing some of the hardest work in the world: that’s what a day like this can offer.

We are grateful to everyone who took part, on stage and in the audience, for making this day heart-warming, thought-provoking, and community-building. We look forward to seeing how the sparks lit in that apple barn continue to grow.

At the ceremony in Båstad, Sweden, Food Planet Prize co-chairs Magnus Nilsson (Director General of the Curt Bergfors Foundation) and Professor Lindiwe Majele Sibanda (Extra-Ordinary Professor, University of Pretoria) shared the jury's decision with the audience:

"APCNF demonstrates how nature-positive farming can be implemented across entire communities and regions, providing a scalable pathway for millions of farmers while simultaneously improving livelihoods, resilience, and environmental outcomes.

While transforming the way food is produced, APCNF has realized measurable reductions in dependence on synthetic agricultural inputs and enhanced resilience to climate shocks, droughts, and economic volatility. Essentially, APCNF shows how the future of agriculture can be built by working with nature rather than against it."

Over the past ten years, 1.8 million farmers in southern India have joined what is now one of the world’s largest transitions to natural agriculture—and the numbers keep growing.

We are proud and excited to share with you these four amazing initiatives who made it to the final stage out of over a thousand nominations!

The 2026 finalists are:
⚫️ APCNF (India) AnAndhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming️ Conscious Kitchen (USA) CoConscious Kitchen️ NoPalm Ingredients (Netherlands)
⚫️ Savanna Institute (USA) SaSavanna InstituteFrom bringing agroforestry back to America's Midwest and scaling chemical-free farming across India, to making organic school meals a reality for nearly a million children and developing a fermentation-based alternative to palm oil—these four initiatives represent some of the most promising work underway to reduce the environmental damage caused by our food system.

Each finalist has been carefully selected through a thorough review process led by the Food Planet Prize's in-house nominations team, with expert evaluations from leading academics and in-person site visits conducted by the Curt Bergfors Foundation.

The finalists will come to Sweden in June to present to the Food Planet Prize international jury, which will vote on the winner on June 2. This year, the winner will be awarded 1.5M USD and each of the remaining finalists will receive 150,000 USD.
