Some may say you need to go big to start a new Rotary year, but the Rotary Clubs of Areas 3B and 3C showed that sometimes, it is the smallest steps that make the biggest impact. With tiny feet and bright smiles, Unang Lakang: Rotary Day for Children marked a heartwarming launch to the new Rotary year.
On the morning of July 1, 2025, the Rotary Clubs of Central Baluarte Tacloban, Central Tacloban, Kandaya, Kankabato, Leyte Gulf, San Juanico, and Tacloban came together to distribute school supplies and gifts to children from the daycare centers of Brgy. 49 Youngfield, Brgy. 57 White Lane, Brgy. 59-A Sampaguita, and Brgy. 60 Aslum Sagkahan at the St. Gerald Pastoral Center, Redemptorist Parish. Proudly supporting them were the ever-energetic Rotaract Clubs of Kandaya, Kankabato, Tacloban, San Juanico, and SPSPS San Juanico.
With this yearโs Rotary theme, โUnite for Good,โ the event reflected true collaboration. The program began with a welcome message from Rotary Club of Kandaya President Lolit Escaรฑo, followed by guest acknowledgment from Club Secretary Yiuki Mae Muรฑoz. Each of the seven club presidents then delivered their messages, and the program was capped off with closing remarks from Assistant Governor Bonifacio Tordillo Jr. of Area 3B.
Meanwhile, in Nahaong, Libagon, Southern Leyte, the Rotaract Club of SLSU was also taking meaningful steps in the same spirit. Holding their own Rotary Day for Children, they distributed school supplies and snacks, and conducted a mini-workshop for kids โ turning a small barangay hall into a space full of learning, laughter, and love. Their initiative, running parallel to the larger celebration, showed that no matter the distance, the heart of service beats just as strong.
The atmosphere was cheerful and festive with the aroma of popcorn, the hum of a cotton candy machine, and children holding cones of ice cream and colorful school kits. But what truly brought the event to life were the Rotaract Clubs, who played a vital role beyond support. They managed and facilitated fun parlor games, maintained a clean and safe environment ensuring the comfort and safety of both children and their parents, and provided exciting prizes that kept the smiles going. Their energy and enthusiasm helped create a joyful, lighthearted space where every child felt welcomed and celebrated.
Laughter echoed throughout the venue as two young celebrants were serenaded with โHappy Birthday,โ and the joy in the childrenโs eyes was a reminder that even the simplest moments can create lasting impact.
Because sometimes, all it takes to kickstart a meaningful Rotary year is a handful of crayons, a swirl of cotton candy, and a few baby steps in the right direction.
