Encouraging children to love reading. Empowering them through literacy! Learning English Through Stories - Read, a.k.a. LE.T.S. Created by the Corazon S.

READ or LETS Read, is a literacy program that supplements the school curriculum in helping children learn to read. Through remedial reading sessions, it focuses on children at risk of dropping out due to learner's frustration from never having learned to read. Atayde Memorial Foundation, using material by the BINHI English Literacy Foundation, LETS Read believes that children learn best through st

ories. The Program has grown from 50 scholars in just 1 school to nearly 4000 scholars in 40 schools/sites, and shown an 80-90% improvement in reading and comprehension skills based on DepEd's Phil-IRI reading assessment tool. It has also been recognized twice by the DepEd as a valued partner in promoting accessible and quality Education For All (EFA), at the DepEd NCR Parangal at Pasasalamat in 2013 and 2014. Partnering closely with the schools, the parents, and the community, LETS Read has been able to transform the lives of the children most at risk of being left behind by the public educational system. Through LETS Read, the Corazon S. Atayde Memorial Foundation seeks to eradicate illiteracy at the grade school level. By learning how to read, the children are no longer assured of failure and have a real chance at a brighter future.

A new milestone for Peso Smart! 💚🌱

For the first time, the Peso Smart program is being implemented in the Farm Schools, bringing financial literacy learning opportunities to even more young Filipinos. We are excited to see how the modules will help our farm school learners develop smart money habits and make informed financial decisions, particularly in managing the income they earn from the produce they grow on their farms.

We had a successful series of Peso Smart launches last August 17–18, 2026, at:

📍 Cansilayan Farm School, Negros Occidental
📍 Manghanoy Farm School, Negros Occidental
📍 Eva J. Montilla Farm School, Negros Occidental

This milestone would not have been possible without the strong support, leadership, and advocacy of Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent Gladys Amylaine D. Sales, CESO V, who recognized that the Peso Smart financial literacy program would be a valuable complement to the activities and lessons of our Farm Schools. We likewise thank Assistant Schools Division Superintendents Enjenette D. Baroa, CESE, and Julito L. Felicano, CESE; CID Chief Arch. Nelson G. Bedaure; OIC-SGOD Chief Dency Grace A. Padillon; and Senior Education Program Specialist–SM Maoel John N. Barredo for their invaluable support, warm welcome, and commitment to the successful implementation of the Peso Smart program. 🙌💚

We also extend our appreciation to the school heads, teachers, facilitators, volunteers, and everyone who helped make these launches successful.

Together, we continue to empower students with essential financial literacy skills, helping them make smart money choices and turn their dreams into achievable goals. 💪🏼💚

We've been posting a lot about Peso Smart, so here's the concise version.

Peso Smart, is a financial literacy program of Manulife Philippines that helps young learners understand money early in life so they can make smarter financial decisions in the future.

We believe in starting them young because childhood is a critical period for developing the knowledge, attitudes, and habits that influence future financial decisions. Through Peso Smart, children learn key money concepts while families are encouraged to continue the conversation at home using the learner modules.

Because financial literacy isn't just about money, it's about building confidence, responsibility, and a brighter future.

🌾 From growing crops to growing financial confidence!

We are happy to share that this week, we launched the pilot implementation of Manulife Philippines' Peso Smart program in three farm schools in Negros Occidental: Cansilayan Farm School (Murcia), Manghanoy Farm School (La Castellana), and Eva J. Montilla Farm School (Cauayan).

This initiative stems from our partnership with the Schools Division Office of Negros Occidental, which recognized the value of equipping farm school learners, many of whom already earn income from their agricultural activities, with practical financial management skills.

Together, we are helping young learners become not only skilled farmers but also smart money managers.

Sa dami ng oras na ginugugol ng kabataan sa gadgets at social media, madalas nagiging hamon para sa mga magulang na makasabay at makaintindi. Minsan, nagdudulot pa ito ng hindi pagkakaunawaan sa bahay.

Makipag‑usap sa kanila tungkol sa kanilang online activities nang may malasakit at pang‑unawa. Maaari itong gawin sa pamamagitan ng pagku‑kuwentuhan habang nagbabrowse sila, pagtanong tungkol sa mga kaibigan nila online, o pagbibigay ng payo sa ligtas na paggamit ng internet. Kapag naramdaman ng bata na hindi sila hinuhusgahan, mas magiging bukas sila sa pagbabahagi.

✨ Tandaan: Ang social media ay mas nagiging ligtas kapag may gabay ng magulang.

Before the week draws to a close, we want to share a story that reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

Our story with RVAlbay Batbat ES, Guinobatan, Albay started two years ago. We cannot remember if somebody mentioned the school to us or if we received a letter requesting a partnership, but what we do remember is that they had been on our list of schools for some time, and we simply cannot find a sponsor for them. So, when boxes of books arrived at our office from Keys International School, we immediately thought of the school. However, we still had to figure out how to get the books to them. Thankfully, the school knew someone with a pickup truck who was returning home to Guinobatan. Logistics is often one of the biggest challenges in this work, and many of our projects move forward because people generously step in to help. In this case, Jas Moral volunteered to bring the books home, ensuring they arrived safely at Batbat Elementary School. For that, we remain deeply grateful.

In the past year, we kept in touch with the school. Since they have no library, the principal's office doubled as one. They procured steel shelves and set up the books and encouraged the children to borrow from the collection.

Fast forward to July this year, we received five big boxes of children's books from Saint Paul School, Vancouver, Canada, through the initiative of Ms. Anna Santa Ana. So, since we were already travelling to Albay to launch Peso Smart in three schools, we thought, why not bring some of the storybooks from the boxes, along with Filipino storybooks donated by Rotary Club of Pasig South, to replenish Batbat Elementary School's collection? So we did.

And boy, oh boy, were we inspired when we delivered the books! We arrived after classes started in the morning and sat down with the principal. When recess time came, the children lined up one by one to borrow books and log them out. The children moved through the process with ease. They lined up, browsed the shelves, and logged the books. One learner was looking for a specific title, and a classmate immediately pointed her to the right shelf.

The parents of the kindergarten learners who were waiting for their children's dismissal also casually mentioned that they themselves had been borrowing some of the books to read to the children at home. It was certainly a great visit.

So today, we are sending more books from the Saint Paul School donation. We are also sending Reading Challenge Kits, generously sponsored by Enzo Pastore of EPS painters & decorators. in Melbourne, Australia.

Our shared story with Batbat Elementary School is still being written, but it is a beautiful example of the Corazon Sanchez Atayde Memorial Foundation's mission: to be a channel of generosity.

Sinimulan namin ang School Year 2026–2027 ng AIA Healthiest Schools Program sa pamamagitan ng isang REORIENTATION kasama ang aming mga PARTNER SCHOOL.

Ibinahagi namin ang mga mahahalagang natutunan at tagumpay mula sa nakalipas na dalawang taon, kabilang ang:

Mula noon, unti-unti naming binuo ang pundasyon ng programang ito;

🔸 Nakilala namin ang aming mga mag-aaral sa pamamagitan ng pagsusuri sa kanilang kasalukuyang kakayahan sa pagbasa.
🔸 Nakatuwang namin ang mga teacher volunteer at nabigyan sila ng mga kagamitan at gabay upang maging epektibong katuwang sa pagpapatupad ng programa.
🔸 Nakasama rin namin ang mga magulang upang pagtibayin ang kanilang mahalagang papel sa paghubog ng pagmamahal ng kanilang mga anak sa pagbabasa at pagkatuto.
🔸 At sa araw ng paglulunsad, hindi lamang isang programa ang aming sinimulan—pinagtibay namin ang isang pangakong sama-samang kikilos para sa mas maliwanag na kinabukasan ng aming mga L.E.T.S. Read Scholars.

Sa pamamagitan ng paglagda sa mga Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), opisyal naming pinagtibay ang aming pagkakaisa sa layunin. Sa pamamagitan ng mga kuwentong ibinahagi sa storytelling session, binuksan namin ang mundo ng imahinasyon at pagkatuto. At sa pamamagitan ng pamamahagi ng mga learning kit para sa mga iskolar at mga kahon ng story books para sa aming mga teacher volunteer, nagbigay kami ng mga kasangkapang magagamit nila sa kanilang paglalakbay tungo sa mas mahusay na pagbasa.

Habang sinasalubong natin ang Buwan ng Wika, ipinapaalala sa atin ng proyektong ito na ang bawat L.E.T.S. Read Scholars na natututong magbasa nang may kumpiyansa ay isang hakbang tungo sa mas matatag na kinabukasan. At sa likod ng bawat tagumpay ng aming mga L.E.T.S. Read Scholars ay isang komunidad ng mga g**o, magulang, katuwang, at tagapagtaguyod na sama-samang naniniwala sa kapangyarihan ng edukasyon.
