PRC JOINS IFRC, ICRC, AND 191 NATIONAL SOCIETIES IN CELEBRATING WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY 2026
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the global celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, 2026, marking 79 years of nonstop commitment to helping communities worldwide alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

The international observance follows the theme โ€œUnited in Humanity,โ€ meant to celebrate the volunteers and staff whose support and compassion toward communities shine amidst crises and emergencies around the world.

The day also serves as a call to uphold and protect humanitarian work, ensuring timely support is given to those most in need.
โ€œThe Philippine Red Cross volunteers are the backbone of the entire organization. Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country. This day is meant to celebrate not only them, but also the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide who continue to serve humanity,โ€ said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement grew from an idea by Jean Henry Dunant in 1859 after witnessing the suffering brought by the Battle of Solferino in Italy.
Today, the Movement is composed of the ICRC, the IFRC, and 191 National Societies working together as the worldโ€™s largest humanitarian network.

โ€œThe Philippine Red Cross will always look up to the ICRC, IFRC, and our fellow National Societies, and celebrate their humanitarian achievements across the world. Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country while remaining united with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving those most in need,โ€ PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang stated.

The PRC commits its adherence to this yearโ€™s theme and ensures its application in the various humanitarian services it offers nationwide.

Medical teams, first-aid stations, and mobile responders were positioned along the route to monitor participants' condition and provide immediate assistance as needed. This initiative aimed to secure a safe and orderly environment as the faithful took part in this meaningful journey of prayer and reflection on Christโ€™s love, sacrifice, and mercy.

At 4:00 AM, Red Cross responders and volunteers were strategically deployed to ensure safety coverage during the โ€œCome and Walk With Himโ€ Live Dramatization of the Stations of the Cross organized by the Parish Youth Ministry. The route spanned from the Cathedral, passing through Brgy. San Roque, Tinago, Malaubang, and concluding at Bukagan Hill.
