Today, October 7, marks three years since Israel launched its retaliation against Hamas's armed wing offensive on southern Israel, along with other Palestinian resistance groups. Since then, what has been carried out across Palestine has often been described in neutral terms such as โwar,โ โconflict,โ or โattacks.โ Yet these words understate what has unfolded:

From the Nakba of 1948, to the violent decades of occupation that followed, Palestinians have continued to be subject to displacement and the denial of their right to return.
The Zionist State of Israel continues its military campaign backed by political and military support from powerful Western allies, such as continued military assistance from the United States and Germanyโclear evidence of complicity. The question is not only what Israel has done in the name of security and Zionism, but what its allies have enabled in the name of โantisemitism,โ strategic partnership, and geopolitical interests.

Their suffering has been documented and named for years, while governments, institutions, and individuals have too often found ways to look away, soften the language, or treat mass suffering as an unfortunate consequence of geopolitics.
There is a choice to refuse the comfort of looking away while there are still people to stand with and accountability to demand. Because one day, while everyone may claim that they were against this,
