Two days before the International Working Womenโs day, Gabriela Youth and youth activists staged a militant protest action today in front of the US Embassy to condemn escalating wars of aggression and imperialist intervention, particularly on the recent incidents in Iran and the continued repression, harassment, and killings of women and girls in the Philippines.
The protest, led by young women and youth formations, denounced the violence and instability brought about by foreign intervention and militarism. Protesters asserted that women and girls are often among the first and most severely affected by war, state violence, and political repression.
โYouth across the globe unite and fight against US imperialist wars of aggression,โ said Fran Reyes, National Spokesperson of Gabriela Youth. She mentioned how militarism and authoritarianism combine to silence womenโs voices and crush their struggles for freedom and dignity.
โImperialist wars of aggression do not only destroy nations, but target the future. It is the youth who are displaced, imprisoned, or killed, it is our voices they attempt to silence." said Reyes.
The youth-led action emphasized that the international struggle against imperialist wars of aggression is deeply connected to the local conditions faced by women in the Philippines. Activists highlighted the countryโs long history of women participating in anti-colonial and anti-fascist struggles.
โFilipino youth continue to play a vital role in the anti-imperialist struggle, from organizing communities and raising political awareness, to mobilizing in mass actions and winning local victories. In the face of deepening oppression, as the space for dissent and democratic participation shrink under repression, young women have and continue to take part in armed struggle and directly fight against imperialism." said Reyes.
Today, young women in the Philippines continue to confront worsening political and economic conditions. Rising prices, lack of decent employment, attacks on democratic rights, and persistent gender-based violence expose young women to multiple forms of exploitation and oppression.
โAs young women and members of the youth sector, we refuse to inherit a society defined by crisis and exploitation" the group stated. โWe recognize that the same systems that wage wars also deepen poverty, repression, and inequality in our own communities.โ
The protesters stressed that youth are not merely spectators to history but active participants in shaping the future. As the future generation of workers and productive forces in society, they underscored their responsibility to resist injustice and struggle for genuine social change.
The program culminated with the symbolic burning of the faces of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Benjamin Netanyahu, and Donald Trump, expressing collective outrage and denouncing them as among the worst war criminals of our time.
The youth leaders called on fellow youth and other democratic sectors to join the upcoming Militant Womenโs Action in celebration of International Working Womenโs Day on March 8 at the Liwasang Bonifacio to collectively raise the call for womenโs rights, national sovereignty, genuine social transformation and to hold accountable the current US-Marcos regime in its crime to the Filipino people.
