Rotary Club of Uptown Manila is a service organization composed of business professionals from various industries who volunteer time, skills, talent and resources in order to help the community. In September 1983, Rotarian Amang Samson, then President of the Rotary Club of University District Manila together with Past Governor Pepot Barredo blazed the trail, which led to the organization of the Ro
tary Club of Uptown Manila. Recognized by the Rotary International in December 1983, the Charter of the Club as presented on 29 February 1984 during the induction ceremonies of the Club Charter Officers, Directors, and members led by Charter President Sani C. The Club started its Rotary Service with a big bang when it adopted Barrio Palomar in Tondo as the target site for its community service thrust. This started a series of community projects understanding by Club aimed to benefit the people and community it has committed to serve in the spirit of Rotary. Beginning 1984, the Club started to participate in projects in the district and interact with other Rotary Clubs by holding joint meetings with them. During the past years from 1984 till now, the Club has been accorded various citations, recognitions, and statement of appreciation from District, which some of which are the following:
• Presidential Citation for Achieving a Well-Balanced Program in four avenues of Rotary Service (1992-93)
• Award for Excellence in Governor’s Trust for Category I (1992-93)
• Bronze Award for Highest TRF Contribution per capita (1995-96)
• Meritorious Service Award for Spearheading the Smokey Mountain, ‘Oplan Bagong Buhay’ (1995-96)
• District Governor’s Special Recognition for Hosting the 4th Leg of the Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament (1995-96)
• District Governor’s Special Recognition for Hosting Rotary International Worldwide Poster Contest (1995-96)
• Presidential Citation for Outstanding Club Participation in the Four Avenues of Service (1995-96)
• Honorable Mention by Rotary International for the Best Program on Alleviation of Poverty and Hunger in RI District 3810 (1997-98)
Until now, the Club is dreaming to grow, and serving the needy and the marginalized people.
