Building on our commitment to evidence-based advocacy, the PNA initiated a national survey of nursing faculty on March 18, 2026. Following a two-week data collection period, the PNA presented key findings to Dr. Milabel Ho, Chairperson of the CHED Technical Panel for Nursing Education, on April 8, 2026. This meeting served as a vital platform to highlight one of the pressing concerns of our nursing educators.

For context, the PNA advocates for reforms in the rank and compensation structure of nursing faculty. This stems from persistent concerns regarding the disparity between the advanced qualifications required under Republic Act No. 9173 (Philippine Nursing Act of 2002) and CHED policies, and the relatively low entry-level compensation offered in academic nursing positions. Currently, nurses with advanced credentials receive a lower salary grade than those with entry-level qualifications in other government institutions.

This inconsistency serves as the main motivation for PNA’s advocacy to ensure that nurses with advanced academic preparation and professional competence are provided with adequate compensation, recognizing their vital role in educating the next generation of nurses.

Building on the momentum of the survey results and our initial dialogue with Dr. Ho, PNA President Gian Carlo Torres formally submitted a request for a consultative dialogue with CHED on April 21. This ensures that these concerns are addressed through proper policy channels and institutional engagement.

The PNA remains committed to advancing this cause through evidence-based advocacy and policy dialogue. We continue to call for a more equitable and standardized compensation structure for nursing faculty, including the restructuring of entry-level academic ranks which are reflective of their qualifications and responsibilities.

On April 22, 2026, PNA President Gian Carlo Torres formally submitted a letter requesting a consultation with Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara.

The letter outlines the ONE PNA agenda, emphasizing our commitment not only to the welfare of Filipino nurses but also to the holistic health of Filipinos across various settings—including students, school personnel, and school nurses.

In the same communication, we expressed our intent to initiate a dialogue with Secretary Angara to explore meaningful collaborations and strategic initiatives between PNA and DepEd. Among the priority areas identified are addressing growth stunting, strengthening oral health programs, and implementing other health interventions that will directly benefit students and school communities. As the health needs of both learners and nurses continue to evolve, proactive and responsive solutions remain essential.

We also highlighted the evolving role of DepEd nurses, particularly the need to support their professional growth and establish clear career pathways for advancement.

The PNA calls on school nurses and the general public to support this initiative, as strengthened collaboration will not only benefit the over 3,000 DepEd nurses but also contribute to better health outcomes for students nationwide.

The Philippine Nurses Association, Inc. (PNA) hereby informs its members, partners, and the general public of a temporary disruption affecting its official page.

Yesterday, the Association was notified that its official page has become inaccessible. As a result, prior posts, historical content, and engagements on said platform are currently unavailable. The Association is actively coordinating with the platform provider and conducting an internal technical review to determine the cause of the disruption and to facilitate the restoration of access at the soonest possible time.

PNA recognizes the vital role of its official digital platforms in disseminating information, advancing professional advocacies, and maintaining communication with Filipino nurses both locally and internationally. The Association assures the public that all necessary steps are being undertaken to address the situation promptly and responsibly.

In compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012, the Association emphasizes that this incident is limited solely to the accessibility of its social media page. There is no evidence of any data breach or unauthorized access to its internal systems. All membership records, personal data, and confidential information under the custody of PNA remain secure and protected. The Association continues to uphold stringent data protection and cybersecurity measures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

To ensure continuity of communication, PNA has established a new official page, which shall serve as its temporary and authorized digital platform. Members and the public are encouraged to follow and rely only on this page for verified announcements, updates, and official communications. The Association likewise cautions the public against unofficial or unauthorized pages that may misrepresent PNA.

A subsequent advisory will be issued once there are significant developments regarding the status of the original page. Individuals who have recently communicated with PNA through the affected platform are advised to resend their inquiries through the new official page or through the Association’s other verified communication channels.
