SUPERVISED NEIGHBORHOOD PLAY ON SECOND NATIVE GAMES AND FEEDING
The Kapatiran Kaunlaran Foundation, Inc. (KKFI) and Community Chest Foundation, Inc. (ComChest) jointly conducted last 15 July the second session of KKFI’s Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP) for 100 children of families living in the Manila North cemetery (MNC). The SNP’s aims that day, aside from physical fitness for children, were to enable them to learn and appreciate traditional native games without using modern-day gadgets; to experience socialization and to learn sportsmanship. Games led by the ComChest team were sprint, catch ball, and cup pyramid. Friendly competitions came about and prizes were given the winners. Little bags of goodies were also given away as they partook of snacks. Ms Joanna Merced, SNP coordinator, welcomed the sponsors and participants while Mr. Santy Iray, ComChest board trustee, synthesized lessons learned from the games. The sponsors for the day’s activity were: Roman Manalo, Lorenzo Bautista, Leonard Nucum, Jr., Mooky Siriporn, Agnes Patulot, Raiza and Tanya Cusi, Ron and Melanie Serrano, Erika Kristen Romana Docor, Marie Khalia Shayne L. Regalado, and Dana Jemina Regalado.
The SNP project, “Enhancing Community-based Response for the Protection of Street and Working Children in Manila North Cemetery,” aims to provide protection services to pre-schoolers, street and working children ages 3-17, who are out of school and living at the MNC, through the provision of alternative education, health and medical assistance and life skills training. Their parents/guardians are mobilzed to participate in the project and provided seminars on parent effectiveness and income generation..
The KKFI is headed by Ms Ruth R. Flores as president while the ComChest president is Councilor Raymundo R. Yupangco.
