We are a non-governmental organization that serves as a conservation financing platform to facilitate the flow of conservation funds from international and other donors to communities in the Philippines. Established in 2002, under two bilateral agreements between the governments of the United States of America and the Philippines, the Forest Foundation Philippines is a non-profit organization that provides grants and technical assistance to individuals and organizations that empower the people to protect and conserve the forests.

🥳 From July to September 2026, our Board of Trustees approved seven Medium and Large Grant proposals under the Tropical Forest Conservation Funds and BD Corridor Project.

🌱 The approved projects support a range of community-led initiatives, including forest restoration, agroforestry, watershed protection, sustainable livelihoods, and nature-based tourism—helping strengthen the connections between healthy ecosystems and resilient communities.

🚌 Bringing the museum beyond its walls and closer to communities.

🥳 Forest Foundation Philippines and the National Museum of the Philippines recently launched Mobile Museum Boxes in a Bus to the Sierra Madre, creating opportunities for communities—especially young learners—to discover and appreciate the region’s rich natural heritage.

💚 Mobile Museum Boxes in a Bus: Sierra Madre is a travelling exhibition that highlights the rich natural and cultural heritage of the southern Sierra Madre mountain range and its surrounding communities. Through the exhibition, visitors are invited to explore the region’s biodiversity and cultural heritage, and learn about the important connections between the forest landscape and the people who call it home.

🏛️ The initiative builds on a partnership that began in 2019, bringing together science, research, education, and conservation to make it more accessible to the public.

🤝This project was made possible with the support of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) Infanta Chapter, Mabuwaya Foundation, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), and the Local Governments of the Municipalities of Real, Infanta, and General Nakar, Quezon Province.

🏝️What can we learn from a place where forests and coastal ecosystems are closely connected to community life?

🌱Our Board of Trustees’ learning visit to Cantilan, Surigao del Sur brought us closer to local landscapes, communities, and conservation efforts.

💚 Located in northeastern Mindanao, Cantilan is a coastal municipality where forest and coastal landscapes meet. With 72% of its land area classified as forestland, the municipality recognizes the protection and conservation of its natural resources as an important development priority.

🌱 Nature-based Solutions ( ) work best when nature and communities are at the center.

🤝 At the Philippine Mangrove Conference 2026, we facilitated a session on NbS, exploring how ecosystem-based approaches can strengthen climate resilience. Speakers included members from the Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Support Network, including the Institute of Social Order, Communities for Resilience, Philippine Red Cross, and WWF-Philippines.

💚 The session also explored how NbS can strengthen climate resilience while delivering benefits for both people and biodiversity—from women-led mangrove management in Camarines Sur, Local Conservation Area (LCA) management in Calamianes Islands, Palawan, to seagrass protection and sustainable sea cucumber farming in Misamis Oriental.

💬We also shared field experiences highlighting the importance of evidence-based participatory approaches, cultural fit, and community ownership in making NbS work on the ground.

❓As the Philippine mangrove sector looks toward the future, we continue to ask: How can we institutionalize NbS beyond individual projects, better recognize Indigenous and place-based knowledge, and sustain community-led stewardship?
