CPAs Across Bicol Strengthen Professional Excellence in Two-Day PSA and PFRS Seminar

Accounting professionals from across the Bicol Region gathered for a meaningful two-day technical seminar focused on the latest developments in the Philippine Standards on Auditing (PSAs) and the Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) for Small and Medium-sized Entities (SMEs) and Small Entities (SEs), reaffirming their commitment to professional competence and lifelong learning.

The seminar brought together participants from Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Sorsogon, providing an excellent opportunity for CPAs from different sectors to learn, exchange insights, and prepare for the evolving demands of the profession.

The first technical session was facilitated by Cesar Faustino R. Ravalo, Jr. (Sir Jun Ravalo), ACPAPP National President, who discussed the practical application of the Philippine Standards on Auditing. Conducted in preparation for the Quality Assurance Review (QAR), the session guided participants on how to effectively perform audits using the audit templates and working papers available through the PICPA website. As the PSAs are derived from the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), participants gained valuable insights on applying globally recognized auditing standards, helping enhance the quality of their engagements and strengthening their competitiveness in the international accounting profession.

Beyond the technical discussion, Sir Jun generously shared practical tips drawn from his extensive professional experience and actively addressed questions from the participants, making the session highly interactive and relevant to the challenges encountered by practitioners.

On the second day, Jan Michael Maglinao delivered an insightful discussion on the PFRS for SMEs and PFRS for SEs, equipping participants with a clear understanding of the forthcoming changes in financial reporting requirements. His presentation highlighted the importance of staying ahead of regulatory developments to ensure continued compliance and the preparation of high-quality financial statements as the new standards are implemented.

Although facilitated by the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice (ACPAPP), the seminar was successfully conducted as a joint undertaking of ACPAPP Southern Bicol and PICPA Albay Chapter, reflecting the strong collaboration between the two professional organizations in advancing the competence of CPAs in the region.

The success of the event was made possible through the dedicated leadership and close coordination of ACPAPP Southern Bicol President Flordeliza Napili, working hand in hand with PICPA Albay Chapter President Ivan Rhett V. Macabeo and President-Elect Jessica C. Esmeña. Their shared commitment to delivering relevant and timely professional development programs ensured a meaningful learning experience for all participants.

As the accounting profession continues to evolve, initiatives such as this seminar underscore the importance of continuous learning, collaboration, and adherence to internationally aligned standards. By equipping CPAs with updated knowledge on auditing and financial reporting, the profession remains well-positioned to deliver high-quality services while meeting the changing needs of businesses and stakeholders.

To all participants from Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Sorsogon, thank you for your active participation, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to professional excellence. Your dedication to continuous learning contributes to strengthening the accounting profession throughout the Bicol Region.

Empowered to Lead, Committed to Serve: ACPAPP Southern Bicol and PICPA Albay Welcome New Leaders

The accounting profession in the Bicol Region marked a significant milestone as the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice (ACPAPP) Southern Bicol Chapter inducted its 2026 Officers and New Members, while the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Albay Chapter formally installed its Fiscal Year 2026–2027 Officers and welcomed its New Members during a Joint Induction Ceremony. The event brought together CPAs from public practice, commerce and industry, government, and education in a celebration of leadership, fellowship, and professional service, reaffirming the organizations’ shared commitment to advancing the accountancy profession.

The evening opened with registration, fellowship dinner, and networking, providing members, distinguished guests, and fellow professionals the opportunity to reconnect, build professional relationships, and strengthen the bonds that unite the profession. The formal program commenced with the Oath of a CPA, led by Jessica Esmeña, followed by the ACPAPP Pledge, led by Abner Ty. Rey Joseph Redoblado delivered the welcome remarks before Jon Celso Apuyan formally introduced the Guest of Honor, setting the stage for an inspiring evening dedicated to leadership and service.

At the heart of the ceremony was the theme “Empowered to Lead, Committed to Serve.” Throughout the evening, the newly inducted officers and members were reminded that leadership begins by showing up—embracing the responsibility to serve, leading by example, and remaining steadfast in upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. As they assume their respective roles, they carry the responsibility of strengthening their organizations, supporting fellow professionals, and contributing to the continued growth of the accounting profession and the communities they serve.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of the ACPAPP National Board, headed by National President Ceasar Faustino Ravalo, Jr. and Executive Vice-President Jose Pepito Zabat III, who shared inspiring messages with the attendees. They were joined by Liaison Director Gerardo Orosco, Chair for Chapter Development Cleopatra Du, and Executive Director Marifi Maring, whose presence reflected the National Board’s continued support for ACPAPP chapters across the country. Following the message of Cleopatra Du, PICPA Bicol Regional Council Senior Director Imelda M. Flores, who was unable to attend in person, conveyed her heartfelt congratulations and words of encouragement through an audio recording, expressing her confidence in the newly elected leaders and members.

The ceremony then proceeded with the formal induction of the 2026 ACPAPP Southern Bicol Officers and New Members, officiated by Executive Vice-President Jose Pepito Zabat III. This was followed by the induction of the FY 2026–2027 PICPA Albay Chapter Officers by National President Ceasar Faustino Ravalo, Jr. Jessica Esmeña subsequently administered the oath of the Chapter’s new members, officially welcoming them into the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Acceptance messages were then delivered by Flordeliza B. Napili, President of ACPAPP Southern Bicol for 2026, and Ivan Rhett V. Macabeo, President of PICPA Albay Chapter for Fiscal Year 2026–2027. Both leaders expressed their gratitude for the trust and confidence entrusted to them and affirmed their commitment to lead with integrity, collaboration, excellence, and meaningful service to their members and the profession.

The formal program concluded with an energetic closing message delivered by Christine Yong, followed by a special musical performance and photo opportunities that allowed attendees to commemorate the occasion. More than an induction ceremony, the event celebrated the beginning of a new chapter of leadership founded on collaboration, professional excellence, and service. It reaffirmed the shared vision of ACPAPP Southern Bicol and PICPA Albay to remain truly Empowered to Lead, Committed to Serve.

The organizers likewise extend their heartfelt appreciation to GoodvibesemceeBert Robert Andes Nuñez for graciously hosting the evening, Rhap Ludovice for capturing the memorable moments through his photography, and 2M Duo for providing the musical entertainment that enriched the celebration. Special recognition is likewise given to the dedicated Casablanca Team for their exceptional hospitality and outstanding service, whose professionalism contributed greatly to the success of the Joint Induction Ceremony.

Celebrating the Craftsmanship Behind Manito’s Samod

During the recent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Activity of PICPA Albay Chapter and the Rotary Club of Metro Legazpi in Manito, Albay, our members had the opportunity to appreciate one of the municipality’s well-known local products—the samod.

For many years, the people of Manito have been recognized for producing high-quality samod through the skill and dedication of their local artisans. Carefully handcrafted using selected natural materials, each samod reflects the craftsmanship, patience, and hard work that have been passed down through generations. Known for its durability and excellent quality, Manito’s samod has become a source of livelihood for many families and a product that proudly represents the community.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Councilor Mia Supat Asejo for the thoughtfully gifted samod received by some of our members during the activity. This meaningful token not only showcases the craftsmanship of Manito’s artisans but also highlights the importance of supporting locally made products.

PICPA Albay Chapter proudly advocates for the promotion of local industries and community-based enterprises. By choosing products made by local artisans, we help sustain livelihoods, preserve traditional craftsmanship, and contribute to the growth of our local economy. Every locally made product tells a story of resilience, hard work, and community pride.

Let us continue to support local artisans, promote locally made products, and celebrate the craftsmanship that makes Manito a community to be proud of.

Today was a meaningful day of service as PICPA Albay Chapter successfully conducted its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship—from the sea to the mountains.

The day began with a mangrove planting activity at the Mangrove Forest of Barangay Cawit, Manito, Albay, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Metro Legazpi, led by its President, Ma. Nerizza S. This initiative was made possible through the valuable support and coordination of DENR Region V, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Albay, and the Local Government Unit of Manito, Albay led by Mayor Jerry Arizapa.

The environmental mission continued with a tree-planting activity in Barangay Balasbas, Manito, Albay, further reinforcing our shared commitment to protecting and preserving our natural environment for future generations.

Following the environmental activities, participants joined a lively Zumba session organized by the Rotary Club of Metro Legazpi and proudly sponsored by PICPA Albay Chapter. The activity promoted not only health and wellness but also camaraderie among the volunteers and partner organizations.

The day concluded with a simple fellowship meal where everyone gathered as one community to celebrate a day of meaningful service. A short recognition program was also held to express our heartfelt appreciation to our partner agencies, organizations, and volunteers whose invaluable contributions made the CSR activity a success. It was a fitting reminder that lasting change is achieved through collaboration, shared purpose, and a genuine commitment to serve.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to DENR Region 5, PENRO Albay, the LGU of Manito, Albay led by Mayor Jerry Arizapa, and especially to Councilor Mia Supat Asejo for her invaluable assistance in coordinating the event and ensuring its success.
