Friends of POMGEN was pleased to facilitate a generous community outreach donation from the PNG Tamil Sangam Association to the Cancer Ward at Port Moresby General Hospital (POMGEN), in support of the hospital’s ongoing efforts during Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The donation, valued at approximately K30,000, included 10 wheelchairs and other essential items to help support patients receiving care at the hospital. These valuable contributions will assist in improving patient comfort, mobility and overall wellbeing.

The donation was formally received by Dr. Koni Sobi, Director of Medical Services, POMGEN, Ms. Theresa Mangi, Director of Corporate Services, POMGEN, and Ms. Grace Roland, Manger, FOPG who expressed their sincere appreciation to the PNG Tamil Sangam Association for its continued generosity and commitment to supporting the hospital and the people of Papua New Guinea.

Friends of POMGEN also acknowledges the generous support of two major sponsors, NiuPower CEO Michael Uiari and LJ Ho**er CEO Karan Rana, who pledged a further K25,000 to the PNG Tamil Sangam Association towards its upcoming Christmas donation drive for POMGEN.

This meaningful initiative reflects the power of community partnerships, corporate generosity and collective compassion in making a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families.

🎀 PINKTOBER | BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 🎀

Awareness saves lives. Early detection matters. Prevention starts with knowing your body.

October is Pinktober, a month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, encouraging early detection, supporting patients and families, and reminding communities that breast health should never be ignored.

💗 A FEW IMPORTANT FACTS:
• Breast cancer can affect women of all ages, although the risk increases with age.
• Finding breast cancer early can make treatment more effective and improve the chances of recovery.
• Not every breast change is cancer, but every unusual or persistent change should be checked by a health professional.
• Men can also develop breast cancer, although it is much less common.

🎀 KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS:
Be aware of changes such as:
• A new lump or swelling in the breast or underarm
• Changes in the size or shape of the breast
• Skin changes, dimpling or unusual thickening
• Changes to the ni**le or unusual discharge
• Persistent pain or a change that is new and unusual for you

🌸 PREVENTION & EARLY DETECTION MATTER
There is no guaranteed way to prevent breast cancer, but healthy lifestyle choices can help reduce risk. Stay physically active, maintain a healthy weight, avoid to***co, limit alcohol, and follow recommended breast screening and check-ups for your age and risk level.

Most importantly, know what is normal for you. If you notice something unusual, don't ignore it—seek medical advice.

Today, Friends of POMGEN brought essential supplies of comfort and care to the mothers and babies admitted at the Special Care Nursery Ward at POMGEN. 🍼💙

The items were shared among the mothers at the ward, and it was truly heartwarming to see their smiles and appreciation.
Sometimes, a simple act of kindness can mean so much to someone going through a difficult time.

Every little contribution reminds mothers and families that they are not alone they are seen, loved and cared for.

Together, we can continue bringing hope, comfort and kindness to those who need it most. 💙

Small Support, Big Heart. 💙

Yesterday, we stepped in to support the Special Nursery Care at Pomgen with 50mL syringes for very sick babies.

We are on call 24 hours every day at the hospital to support patient care and ward needs as they arise.

Friends of Pomgen are Friends for Life 🙏
