RISE Workshop 5 β I AM LOVED π
On 18 July 2026, participants gathered at the Gateway Hotel and Apartments in Port Moresby for Workshop 5: I Am Loved β a meaningful day focused on holistic wellbeing, encompassing physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellness. The workshop brought together mentors, mentees and partners to learn, connect and grow through a range of wellness, leadership and personal development sessions.
The workshop was sponsored by KPMG, with Dr. Jambi Garap serving as the honorary guest speaker. Dr. Garap an Ophthalmologist by profession is the inaugural recipient of the Gabi Hollows Award for Women Advancing Global Health and Development, with The Fred Hollows Foundation recognizing her as a defining force in Pacific eye health over more than two decades.
During her inspiring address, Dr. Garap shared a heartfelt reflection on her upbringing, the challenges she faced, and the life experiences that shaped her journey and contributed to her success today.
Through her personal story, she encouraged participants to pursue their goals with determination and confidence, highlighting three key takeaways:
1. Education β Education is a powerful tool for personal growth and empowerment. Dr. Garap emphasized the importance of continually seeking knowledge, developing skills, and embracing opportunities to learn as a pathway to achieving one's aspirations.
2. Resilience β Success is often built through overcoming setbacks and challenges. Dr. Garap encouraged participants to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, viewing obstacles as opportunities for growth and learning rather than barriers to success.
3. Unapologetic Ambition β Participants were challenged to dream boldly, pursue their goals with confidence, and not be afraid to strive for excellence. Dr. Garap emphasized that ambition should be embraced without hesitation, encouraging women to lead, innovate, and create opportunities for themselves and others.
The program featured presentations on menstrual health education led by QueenPads and blood donation awareness facilitated by the Sir Brian Bell Foundation Blood Drive team. These sessions empowered participants with practical knowledge and encouraged healthy choices that contribute to individual and community wellbeing.
A special highlight of the day was the continued support of CPL Foundation Inc., founding partner and lead sponsor of the RISE Program. Reinforcing its commitment to empowering young women, the Foundation presented a cheque for K182,889.87.
