Today, Save the Children’s Australian Regional Leadership Initiative hosted a delegation of Australian parliamentarians at Port Moresby General Hospital. The MPs saw firsthand the incredible work happening for mums, babies and families.

They visited the PomGen maternity services, Susu Mamas’ ward and the CIR/UNICEF birth registration team, hearing powerful stories of how these partnerships are saving lives and strengthening PNG’s health system.

Huge thanks to the dedicated health workers, volunteers and partners who welcomed us and continue to show what true Australia–PNG cooperation looks like on the ground.

On November 2024, Papua New Guinea joined the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children (MinCon on EVAC) in Bogotá, Colombia. This historic event resulted in high-level declarations and commitments to protect children everywhere.

PNG made important pledges to:

-Strengthen parent and caregiver support
-Improve legal and policy frameworks
-Build strong governance and coordination structures

On World Children’s Day, we reflect on these commitments and call for continued action to ensure every child grows up safe, heard, and thrive.

🔥 Developing Our Youths: From Job Seekers to Job Creators 🔥

Every year, thousands of young Papua New Guineans finish school and step into the world searching for jobs that are fewer and harder to find. The truth is, waiting for opportunities is no longer enough.

That’s why programs like the HDI Personal Viability Business Scheme (PVBS) are changing the game. Instead of waiting for someone to hire them, our Level 2 Graduands learned how to:

💡 Start with just K110 in capital (K10.00 each)
💰 Turn it into K2,958.80 in 7 Days. make K8,931.00 in Sales
🔄 Multiply it 46 times through turnover.
🚀 Achieve an incredible 2590% ROI.

This is the power of entrepreneurship. Instead of lining up for jobs, our young people are learning to create jobs, generate income, and build futures with their own hands.

To the youth of PNG: the choice is yours. You can wait for opportunities to arrive, or you can create them. With the right mindset, tools, and discipline — you are not just the future of this nation, you are its job creators, innovators, and leaders.

🌱 Let’s build a generation of young entrepreneurs who don’t just survive but thrive and take PNG forward.

World Humanitarian Day was yesterday…we’re still on it.

Celebrating Over 40 Years of Humanitarian Impact in Papua New Guinea.
On this post World Humanitarian Day and the days to come, we honor the courage of humanitarian workers and the resilience of communities facing crisis. For more than four decades, Save the Children in PNG has stood alongside children and families, delivering life-saving aid, strengthening local leadership, and supporting long-term development.

From responding to the Enga landslide, volcanic eruptions, the impacts of El Niño, and the COVID-19 pandemic, our work spans emergency response, health and nutrition, education, child protection, and social protection programs, ensuring children can grow up healthy, safe, and empowered.

As humanitarian work becomes increasingly dangerous, we recommit to protecting our colleagues, amplifying community voices, and demanding accountability for all attacks on aid workers. Solidarity is at the heart of our mission.
