Sunday saw sunshine return, after breakfast everyone took a short walk to the river edge where they were split into 3 groups and given the task of building a survival shelter from the driftwood. Great to see what each group could achieve in 45 mins, plenty of teamwork was happening. Before having lunch the cadets were arranged into small groups and and given a section of the van to clean, they had to compete to see who could clean their portion best. Was a great way to view cadets working together while having fun in the process. Amazing how clean the van became - thanks team.
Then it was lunch - their favourite hotdogs. A great weekend had by all.

A number of cadets gave up a weekend of their school holidays to attend a camp/range shoot. Our cadets combined with some cadets from 10 SQN PNth spent Friday evening going over DFTTs in preparation for a range shoot on Sat. Saturday started rather damp meaning adjustments needed to be made in the hopes of not getting too wet. By the afternoon the weather had really turned which did make shooting a wee bit miserable but every cadet persevered and completed their targets. Was great to see that after such a damp day the cadets still had smiles when it came to dinner time.

Thank you to the Whanganui NZ Cadets for hosting the Battle of Britain, combined Chapel Service. A very special service for our communities.

Today saw a number of our cadets attend Battle of Britain service. Cadets used a nearby vehicle as a mirror to ensure their berets were on correctly, then it was form up before march off into the church. Great to see them smiling after the service, it’s yet another Community Service these cadets partake of.

Thursday evening saw a number of our cadets helping at Bunnings with the ‘Fathers Day activities’. Was great to see the interaction from the cadets with their younger audience. We even had our CDTSGT manning the bbq (and he did a great job). Well done team 👍🏼👍🏼

Today saw our cadets partake of the annual Inter Unit Sports Day held at the High School gymnasiums. As usual our cadets showed team work, resilience, and esprit de corps throughout the days games. To assist another team some of our cadets joined them for the day ensuring they had a complete team and could compete fairly. Would also like to thank Alicia and Sam, two of our parent mums who gave of their day to help with feeding the hungry horde and encourage them while playing their games.

We had a surprise for the cadets tonight, they got the opportunity to have a go at flying the NZCF drones. There was much excitement and amusement as they got to grips with moving their drone. Would like to thank SQNLDR Frericks and FGOFF Matthews from 9SQN for taking the time to come in for the evening and spend time with our cadets encouraging them with the drone use. What a great night our cadets had 👍🏼

Today a number of our cadets assisted at the St John’s 1st aid competitions which were held in and around the Army complex (where cadets parade also). It was a long day for them, they did a great job in all the areas they were asked to help with. Great seeing how St John cadets operate.
