Last month we celebrated scholarship recipients, welcomed Dr Lucy Hone to our community, visited the Ōpōtiki Arts Society, and seen first-hand the impact of local generosity in action.

We'd like to take a moment to celebrate one of our trustees, Diane Turner.

Diane recently received her Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, recognising her service to governance, seniors and Māori.

We're incredibly grateful for the experience, wisdom and commitment to community that Diane brings to the Eastern Bay Community Foundation, and we're thrilled to see her contribution recognised in this way.

💛 What a day.

More than 210 people joined us for our Community Keynote and Services Expo, with over 15 local organisations sharing information, resources and support from across the Eastern Bay.

The room was buzzing with conversation, connection and community spirit from start to finish.

A huge thank you to Dr Lucy Hone for sharing such a real, honest and practical perspective on resilience, grief and getting through life's toughest moments. Her message clearly resonated, with people travelling from as far as Auckland and Whanganui to be part of the day.

Thank you also to Gateway Funeral Services for sponsoring, and every organisation, volunteer and attendee who helped make the event such a success. 💛

The team at the Eastern Bay Community Foundation were excited to attend a Community Foundations Aotearoa New Zealand conference last week close to home.

Our small team walked away from the conference in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton buzzing with ideas and plans for helping our communities in the Eastern Bay thrive.
The starting point for this year’s CFANZ conference was that social cohesion in Aotearoa is fraying this is also the reason community foundations exist: where people feel connected to each other, giving grows.
We opened with a welcome at Hamilton Gardens, walking through 4,000 years of garden history before Dr Jeremy Mayall from Creative Waikato kicked us off on Monday morning reminding us that creativity isn't a nice-to-have.

Shamubeel Eaqub gave his usual blunt read on how fast that cohesion is slipping. Hon. Nanaia Mahuta pushed us to think about an economy built with mokopuna in mind, not just today's consumption. And Maria Te Aukaha Huata offered what might have been the line of the whole hui: māia (courage) is what gets aroha over the line.

We also marked ten years of CFANZ, welcomed Em Lewis as our new Chair, and farewelled Lori Luke after eight years on the board.
