Over Labour Weekend, Māori Warden Districts from across the region gathered at Rangatapu Marae in Ohawe, Taranaki, to launch an exciting new chapter: Te Tāwharau ā Toi – The Māori Wardens District Collective. This dynamic alliance is all about returning to the roots of the Māori Warden kaupapa, reconnecting with the original vision that started it all. For too long, some Māori Warden entities have drifted toward a "profit-driven" model, losing sight of what truly matters. But there are many groups out there who remain committed to the heart of the kaupapa—and Te Tāwharau ā Toi stands as a testament to that dedication.

With the full backing of the New Zealand Māori Council, this new collective is setting the stage for something powerful. Over the weekend, a new executive council was elected, alongside the formation of a rangatahi executive council, bringing fresh energy and vision. A formal warranting ceremony was held for both newly appointed and reappointed Wardens, marking the beginning of a new era.

If your District Māori Warden group is eager to be part of this exciting movement, we invite you to get in touch. The future is now—let's make it happen together.

Wardens from across the North Island gathered at Turangitukua to stand alongside the haukainga during the tangihanga of Te Ariki Sir Tumu Te Heuheu VIII. Yesterday, the Mataatua District Māori Wardens, Te Upoko Māori Wardens and Ruaputahanga Māori Wardens paid their respects to Te Ariki Sir Tumu, joining with the people of Mataatua and Tauranga Moana to honour a life marked by wisdom, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his iwi.

His legacy as Te Ariki o Ngāti Tūwharetoa and a respected leader of Aotearoa endures in the hearts of all who knew him. As we return to the boundaries of the Mataatua rohe, we carry with us the mana, aroha, and lessons of Te Ariki Sir Tumu, ensuring his memory continues to guide and inspire our communities.

He Kupu Aroha, He Poroporoaki

Haere, haere, haere atu rā e ngā rangatira. Kua tau tō koutou tapu ki runga i te ao hurihuri, ā, mā ngā uri whakatipu e kawe, e pupuri, e whakamana.

E tangi tonu nei te motu, e tangi nei ngā maunga, ngā awa, ngā marae katoa. Heoi anō, ka mahue mai ō koutou kōrero, ō koutou taonga, hei huarahi, hei māramatanga mō te ao hou.

Haere atu rā e te Ariki, okioki atu i te rangimārie.

Te Arikinui Kuini Ngā Wai hono I te Pō, kua tīmata tana kauwhau me te ataahua hoki.

The world wants to do business with te iwi Māori, and through Te Arikinui, she has invited the motu and the world to the Economics Summit that would be hosted within the coming months. That is the first topic on the queens agenda.

The queens second topic that she has established is a $30 million dollar fund to strengthen independence.

Such a beautiful speech e Te Arikinui.
