Meet Claudia Kalotiti, a first-year Marine Engineering student at the Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS). Having grown up in a close-knit family, Claudia stands out for her resilient nature and a clear, determined vision for her future. Her passion sparked in grade 10 during a work placement at the Oceans Logistics Limited, where she realised her dream was to work at sea.

Navigating a male-dominated field, Claudia refuses to let silent doubts from colleagues deter her. As one of eight women in her programme, she finds motivation in the challenge, knowing she earned her place. She is driven by the goal of becoming a Chief Engineer and contributing to the maritime industry in Vanuatu.

When she first arrived at the Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies, Laucala Bay campus, she felt both nervous and excited. However, seeing the training facilities, workshops and fellow students from across the Pacific inspired her, proving this was the right place to build her skills.

To the girls afraid to break the status quo: remember Claudia’s words "No job belongs to only one gender." Own your passion, trust your potential, and take that first step. The future is built by those who refuse to be defined by limits.

Let's hope dividends are shared to Indigenous Peoples of Oceania and not just Government to International Corporations as the current trend seem to be.

FFA looks forward to the 9th Pacific Tuna Forum to be held from 14 – 15 October at the Sofitel Resort, Nadi, Fiji.

FFA Director-General Noan David Pakop will moderate two key sessions reflecting the Pacific’s leadership in sustainable fisheries:
➡ Session 1: Sustainable tuna resources and supply chains in the WCPO (Blue Pacific Continent)
➡ Session 2: Investing in a sustainable and equitable Hubs & Spokes strategy for the tuna industry and strengthening resilience in the Blue Pacific Continent

🗣 “The Pacific Tuna Forum creates an ideal opportunity where FFA Members and cross-sectoral partners in fisheries value chain all come together in one place to promote regional platforms like the East New Britain Initiative (ENBi). Representation at the Forum covers the full range of the fisheries sector from fishing and processing to trade, investment and other areas of the value chain as participants explore how to build on existing strengths and create new opportunities for growth."

These discussions align with FFA’s ongoing work in strengthening fisheries governance, investment, and sustainability across the Blue Pacific Continent.
