❤️💚❤️ Turns out Waimauku has plenty of heart ❤️💚❤️

When we were told Waimauku ‘doesn’t have a heart’, we knew that didn’t sound like our community.
So, with the help of Smashing Promotions, 'Waimauku Has a 💚 - It’s us!’ was born.

🤩A huge thank you to the team at Smashing Promotions for helping us bring the idea to life, and to everyone who has already bought a T-shirt 👕👕👕

If you haven’t got yours yet, they’re available from our shop until 2 October, with proceeds supporting our cause.

Out-of-sequence fast-track housing that jumps ahead of Council’s planned growth is firmly on the political agenda. Katie Bradford’s story is an interesting read, including coverage of our petition handover at Parliament.

Political parties commit to removing housing developments from fast-track process.

Petition presentation day at Parliament!
After 3 weeks of petitioning, and 3344 signatures later, Tatjana, Jane and Carla were Wellington bound today to hand over our petition to Chris Penk on the steps of parliament at 11am.
Chris had a lot of nice things to say about our work for the community, our intentions, and our community’s efforts on this petition.
And yes, he did wear his ‘Waimauku has a heart - it’s us!’ T-Shirt.

Just after 1 we received the news that our petition was going to be read out in parliament at 2!

We attended question time from the public gallery, and the session indeed started with the reading of our and one other petition. We could see Chris from the gallery and he acknowledged us as the petition was read, and other moments that covered fast-track during question time.

Next step: the select committee will consider our petition and contact us.

A very memorable and worthwhile visit to (a very cold) Wellington!

Thank YOU!
Last night our petition officially closed with around 3400 signatures (online & paper combined). For a community of around 1,400 residents, that’s an incredible result. It does go to show, that the issue is bigger than Waimauku.

Tomorrow we’ll take your voices to Parliament and hand over the petition to Chris Penk MP

Thank you to everyone who signed, shared, attended meetings, talked to neighbours or helped spread the word.

What started in Waimauku is now part of a much bigger conversation. There’s a growing groundswell across New Zealand, with councils and communities speaking out about out-of-sequence Fast-track housing getting ahead of infrastructure and established planning. Growth matters, but so does getting it right so future generations are not left dealing with the consequences.

From all of us at the Waimauku Community Association, thank you for standing with us and showing how much this community cares about its future.

Thanks for coming to our first Waimauku Meet the Candidates event last Sunday - a healthy debate of our Kaipara ki Mahurangi candidates on a range of local and general issues, and a wide range of audience questions. Infrastructure, transport, health, environment and Fast-track were hot topics.

A huge thank you to all candidates for participating in a lively discussion, and to Christine Rose for moderating a fast paced and interesting debate.
