Kua tau mai te pō, kua pā mai te pouri me te rongo kua hinga te Koromatua ō mua o te rohe o Taupō, a David Trewavas.

The Ngāti Tūrangitukua Charitable Trust were saddened to hear the passing of former Taupō District Mayor, David Trewavas.

David dedicated many years to serving the people of the Taupō District, we particularly acknowledge David's innovative leadership and willingness to work alongside Ngāti Tūrangitukua during the establishment of our Mana Whakahono ā Rohe agreement.

David will also be remembered for his warmth, humour, and infectious nature. Whether through a friendly conversation, a quick joke, or his unmistakable smile, he had a way of lifting the spirits of those around him, he will be dearly missed.

E rere nei ko ngā whakaaro ki tana whānau e noho pani ana, ngā manaakitanga ki a koutou katoa.

The Tūrangi co-governance committee have released a statement saying they are committed to continuing to work together for the betterment of the Tūrangi community.

Committee Co-Chairs Te Wharau Walker Junior and Taupō District Mayor John Funnell remain committed to their relationship and will continue to work alongside each other, with their respective entities, in the best interests of Tūrangi and the wider Taupō district.

Te Wharau Walker Junior said Mana Whakahono has provided a meaningful way for Ngāti Tūrangitukua and Council to work together as partners, while Mayor John Funnell says “The agreement we have in Tūrangi recognises the fact that most of council’s assets sit on Turangitukua’s land and working together is a reflection of that deeper relationship".
