Our hub is part of the Environment Hubs Aotearoa network, which has just released new research: Community is Climate Resilience.
The report captures hundreds of community voices from across Aotearoa following the 2023 severe weather events, and shows how neighbours, marae, volunteers and local organisations stepped up when systems were stretched or overwhelmed.
Not every community experienced those events directly. But as climate-driven storms become more frequent, this is increasingly our new normal. That’s why we’re sharing this research. It reminds us that resilience already exists in our communities, and needs to be recognised, resourced and supported before the next event.
We’re reading it, sharing it with our team, and using it to strengthen local partnerships.
We encourage you to do the same.
In the wake of this summer’s severe weather, we’re reminded that extreme events are becoming the new normal. Our new research, due out shortly, is on how communities prepare for and respond to severe weather.
Community is Climate Resilience brings together lived experience from communities across Aotearoa, with practical insights for preparedness, coordination and partnership.
