💜 As part of National Volunteer Week 2026, our Big Shout Out Morning Tea in Tauranga brought together 25 incredible organisations at The Kollective - TK to celebrate the volunteers who keep our communities moving!

The room was buzzing with kōrero and a chance to recognise the many ways our mahi overlaps. A special highlight was celebrating Soyeon Kim, our Volunteer Star Award recipient, presented by Mayor Mahé Drysdale 🌟

Waihī Beach knows how to celebrate volunteers! The team were out before dawn this morning to put down the hāngi, and served 400+ tamariki and community volunteers with a beautiful lunch. The waiata and performances by the tamariki were awesome.

👏🌟 Hōmai te pakipaki for Soyeon Kim, our Tauranga Volunteer Star Award winner!

In just two years, Soyeon has become an incredible part of her community. Volunteering 57 hours with Recreate BOP this school term and facilitating woodworking workshops for rangatahi in Gate Pā, all while studying to become a teacher, completing placements, and working part-time!

At our Big Shout Out Morning Tea Tauranga for National Volunteer Week 2026, Soyeon was presented with her Volunteer Star Award by Mayor Mahé Drysdale. Adam Barrett, Programme Lead at Recreate NZ - Bay Of Plenty, reflected on her generosity and the lasting difference she makes in the lives of people she supports 🎉

Her journey is a reminder that volunteering is not just about giving our time. It’s about building belonging and feeling more connected to our hapori.

Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community?

Multicultural Tauranga is searching for a passionate Volunteer English Tutor to support adult migrants and former refugees now living in the Bay of Plenty.

By teaching practical, conversational English in a friendly, small group setting, you’ll help newcomers build confidence, make social connections, and truly thrive.

Commitment: Just 2–3 hours per week (minimum of 2 school terms preferred).

Location: Historic Village, Tauranga.

Who we're looking for: Patient, empathetic people with strong English skills.

Teaching qualifications are welcome but not essential—retired teachers, students, and community-minded locals are all encouraged to apply!

Want to empower others and give back to the Bay of Plenty community?

The Free Public Advocacy Service (FPAS) is looking for empathetic volunteers to help people navigate life's challenges and understand their rights.

What you’ll do:
Help locals resolve issues, big and small.
Commit just 2–5 hours a week (including 1.5 hours at a clinic desk).
Never work alone! You’ll be paired with an experienced mentor.

What you need:
Experience in social services and great active listening skills.
Problem-solving skills and a lot of heart.
