Kia Ora Whānau,
Cyclone Vaianu is moving closer to Aotearoa and may impact us this weekend. Forecasts show potential for strong winds, heavy rain, surface flooding, and slips. Now is the time to prepare—conditions can change quickly.
Please check your whānau’s preparedness and support others in your community as needed.
What You Can Do Now to Prepare:
- Make a plan for your whānau and pets
- Bring inside or secure anything strong winds could lift or damage
- Clear loose branches, firewood, and outdoor debris from your property
- Check on neighbours, kaumātua, and anyone who may need extra help
- Move farm animals to safer areas away from flood risk and strong winds
- Clear drains and gutters (if safe to do so)
- Prepare torches and check batteries
- Have a battery or solar radio ready for updates if the power goes out
Travel & Road Safety Reminder:
Expect potholes and possible road damage
Drive to the conditions
Avoid unnecessary travel
Never drive through floodwaters
Note: Waioeka Gorge is closed due to a slip
