Whitby Toy Library

Whitby Toy Library Whitby Toy Library is a voluntary not for profit organization which offers toys for hire We actively promote play as being essential to a child.

Whitby Toy Library is a voluntary not for profit organization which offers an important dimension to a child's development by providing for hire a wide range of educational toys and games designed to aid mental, physical and social development. Essential to their, social, physical, psychological, and cultural development. It is widely known that children learn through play. It helps them to become more independent, develop concentration and imagination and is a key skill needed for life. Play is fun, an essential part of child development, and something to be enjoyed by the whole family. We aim to be a place that offers a large range of well designed quality toys. A place that gives you the opportunity to borrow toys that match the stage of development that your child is at, a place to interact with other families.

Finding new committee members is hard...
In our 2026 Profile Survey, 74% of toy libraries told us recruiting volunteers and committee members is one of their biggest challenges. It was the most common challenge named, ahead of recruiting new members and operating costs.
We want to change that, and we need to hear from you to do it.
Our Toy Library Volunteer Survey asks about your own experience of getting involved. Together, your answers will give us a clear national picture of who volunteers, why they do it, and how we can attract more people to committee, duty, and ad hoc roles.
TLFNZ will use the findings to build national tools and guidance that every toy library can use locally. This is research with a practical purpose.
It only works if enough people take part. It takes 5 to 8 minutes and closes Monday 5 October.

It's open to anyone currently volunteering or who has volunteered in the past. Please fill it in yourself, then share it with your committee and volunteers so each person can answer separately.
