The University of Otago Pacific Islands Centre will be hosting an Information Fono for Pacific students and their families who are interested in studying at Otago.

Learn about scholarships, accommodation, StudyLink support, and the services available to help students succeed throughout their university journey.

This is a great opportunity for students and parents to ask questions, explore their options, and find out more about the support available at the University of Otago.

🇼🇸 Gentle Stretches meets Samoan Language Week! 🇼🇸

This week’s Gentle Stretches was special as it coincided with the 2026 Samoan Language Week.

OPIT Board Member, Ms. Toeafiafi Taiti shared about Samoa’s Independence, reflecting on its significant and the pride, and history of the Samoan people. It was a valuable opportunity for everyone to learn more about Samoa’s journey and heritage.

Everyone enjoyed the session including learning a Samoan siva, embracing the beauty of Samoan culture through movement and storytelling.

A special thank you to our CEO, Hana Fanene-Taiti for preparing and sharing delicious Samoan dishes and koko samoa for everyone. A truly memorable session.

Tonight our Culture Group came together in preparation for Samoan Language Week, which officially begins this Sunday 🇼🇸❤️

It was a beautiful evening filled with culture, learning, creativity, and connection as we celebrated the richness of Gagana Samoa and the traditions of Fa’a Samoa. Through our different stations: music and singing, t-shirt printing, coconut scraping, and cultural displays. Everyone had the opportunity to experience and appreciate important parts of Samoan heritage.

As we prepare for Samoan Language Week, we are reminded of the importance of keeping our language, customs, and stories alive for future generations. Our language carries our identity, values, history, and connection to our ancestors. Nights like tonight help strengthen pride in who we are and encourage our young people to continue embracing their culture.

“E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu’u” — From the high mountains come the blessings of the village.
