As part of Shocktober, we’re encouraging everyone to come along to one of our free community sessions and learn the simple skills that could help save a life.

Come along and enjoy free play activities, stalls, refreshments and the chance to connect with the local under-fives community.
Hato Hone St John will be there with CPR and AED demonstrations for children, helping young people learn what to do in an emergency.

Hato Hone St John Oamaru Area has rehomed a donated AED to Oamaru Steam and Rail.
A big thank you to The Business Hive, which donated an AED that was no longer required and invited us to find a community organisation that could benefit from it.
Steam and Rail was selected because of the many visitors it welcomes through its heritage rail operations and regular workshop days. The AED will be stored in the guard’s van, making it available on whichever train is operating.

A special thank you to our Hato Hone St John Youth Cadets who have been supporting us the North Otago Rugby Football Union home games. Here’s the crew Saturday’s game! A huge thank you to these amazing young women. Not only did they do a fantastic job shaking the bucket at the game, but two of them had already volunteered earlier that morning. One was helping at the library, and the other was volunteering at the Hato Hone St John retail store.
Their willingness to give their time and support their community is truly inspiring. We’re incredibly lucky to have such dedicated Youth Cadets making a difference wherever they go. 💚💛

Update on the new Oamaru Station build!
We're excited to share that progress is now even further ahead than this video shows, but it was too good not to share. The roof is on, and the internal fit-out is well underway.
A huge thank you to Breen Construction for their continued hard work. We can't wait for move-in day.

Today’s game wasn’t the result the team was hoping for, but we know they’ll learn from the experience, regroup and come back stronger next week!
As the charity partner of the North Otago Rugby Football Union and to support the McKeown North Otago team throughout the 2026 season - A huge thank you to everyone who donated on the day. Your generosity helps us continue providing lifesaving care in our community and contributes towards the build of our new station.
Our volunteers will also be collecting donations at every home game. So, come along, support the team, and help make a difference for North Otago.

October 16th is World Restart a Heart Day; a day to promote CPR awareness – it only takes two hands to save a life! We are inviting students in years 0-4 to learn basic CPR skills by getting hands on practice with their favourite teddy or cushion.
