Baisakhi Celebration and Community Milestone in Taranaki

Last Saturday, the Taranaki Indian Community celebrated the Baisakhi Festival with a vibrant event, marking the opening of a Taranaki branch of the Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust. Speakers expressed gratitude for being part of such a meaningful occasion, particularly following New Zealand’s recent strategic partnership with India. Entertainers showcased the rich, bright, and joyful aspects of Indian culture. The support of the Taranaki Multi Ethnic Council was also recognised, with special memorabilia presented to attending members.

The name Songkran comes from an ancient Sanskrit word meaning to 'enter' or 'pass into' and refers to the movement of the zodiac.
