More than 280 Year 5 and 6 ākonga from across the region came together in Motueka to celebrate movement, culture, connection and fun. Through traditional Māori games (taonga tākaro), students explored important values such as whanaungatanga, kotahitanga, manaakitanga and aroha.

A special shoutout to the amazing Year 7 and 8 Physical Activity Leaders who stepped up to organise and lead the day with confidence and enthusiasm. 👏

A huge thank you to Motueka South School, Lauretta Haskell, participating schools, whānau and everyone who helped make the event possible.

What started as a pilot in 2023 has grown into a much-loved event that continues to bring our communities together through play, leadership and learning.

✨ Matariki reminds us to reflect, connect and look ahead with hope — and the Matariki Games do exactly that.

A huge milestone for the Wakefield community 🏀

The new basketball court is officially open — creating another awesome space for tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, and the wider community to connect, be active, and have fun together.

This project has been made possible through Sport NZ Flood Recovery Funding and the incredible collaboration of organisations, partners, and community members who all played a part in bringing this space to life.

A massive thank you to:
🙌 Sport New Zealand
🙌 Tasman District Council - Te Kaunihera o te tai o Aorere
🙌 Kūmānu
🙌 Downer Group
🙌 Basketball New Zealand
🙌 Chemist Warehouse
🙌 BNZ
🙌 Nelson Basketball Association
🙌 NBS Nelson Giants
🙌 Mitre 10 Mega

Special thanks as well to everyone involved behind the scenes — from planning and project management, to planting, line marking, basketball hoop installations, activations, kai, and community support.

This is what community collaboration looks like 💙💛

It’s Youth Week 🙌

This week celebrates the contribution young people make to our communities across Aotearoa, and recognises the mana, perspectives, and leadership they bring every day.

This year’s theme is:
“Our voices matter. We deserve to be heard.” 💬

At Sport Tasman, we believe participant voice matters. Whether it’s shaping programmes, creating inclusive opportunities, or building stronger local communities through sport and recreation — young people should be part of the conversation.
