🌿 Have your say on the future of the Taiari/Taieri catchment. The proposed 10-year Catchment Action Plan is about supporting the health and restoration of our natural environment, and ORC is seeking community feedback before the survey closes this Sunday, 11 October.

👉 If you live, work or spend time in the catchment, take a look and have your say.

*Both the traditional (Taiari) and common (Taieri) spelling of Taiari/Taieri are being used for this survey.

Yesterday was International Day of Older Persons 👵👴

A timely reminder to check in with the older people in our lives and make sure they’re supported to be prepared for an emergency.

Preparedness is stronger when we look out for each other. ❤️

Today is International Day of Older Persons 👵👴

Older people are at the heart of our communities, bringing wisdom, experience and resilience to everyday life.

One of the best ways to support the older people in your life is to help them get prepared for an emergency.

✅ Have a conversation about their emergency plan and who they would contact for help.
✅ Check that important phone numbers are written down and easy to access.
✅ Help them put together or update emergency supplies, including medications, glasses, hearing aid batteries and important documents.
✅ Make sure they know how to receive emergency alerts and warnings.
✅ If they have mobility, health, or support needs, talk about what extra assistance they may need during an emergency.
✅ Check in with neighbours, friends, or whānau members who may need support.

Preparedness is easier when we do it together. ❤️

We’re looking for someone to join our Youth Advisory Panel team and help support Taieri young people to have their voices heard, build confidence and take the lead.

It’s a great opportunity to make a difference in your community while developing your own facilitation, leadership and youth development skills.

🌟 Help young people have a voice in the Taieri!

Taieri Network is looking for one Youth Advisory Panel Co-Coordinator to join our existing Coordinator and help support our Youth Advisory Panel of young people aged 13–18.

You’ll help facilitate monthly meetings, mentor young people, support youth-led projects and create opportunities for panel members to build confidence, leadership skills and community connections.

We’d love to hear from someone who is enthusiastic about youth development, inclusion and the Mosgiel–Taieri community.

🕒 Volunteer role – approx. 100 hours per year
📅 October 2026 – April 2028
📍 Mosgiel–Taieri
🔐 Police vetting required

A fantastic opportunity to develop experience in facilitation, governance, leadership and youth development while supporting young people to lead.

🎉 Ka pai, Oliver! 🎉

A big congratulations to Oliver from Warepa School, who won the Guess the Awa competition run by the Taieri Youth Advisory Panel at Otago Polyfest! 🌊💙

The challenge? Guess the volume of Taieri River water in a rather deceptive bulbous cookie jar — complete with a few Taieri River rocks thrown in to make things even trickier! 😄

Oliver’s great guesstimate won him a jar packed with blue jellybeans and chocolate fish 🐟💙

Ka pai, Oliver! We hope you enjoy your well-earned prize! 🎉

And a huge thanks to everyone who stopped by the Taieri Youth Advisory Panel stall and had a go! 🙌

DEAR WHEELCHAIR COMMUNITY AND THEIR SUPPORTERS,

I love Pétanque, and I have tried out the Taieri Pétanque Courts at
12 Wickliffe Street in Mosgiel.

I CANNOT PLAY ON the Taieri Pétanque Courts, so I cannot join Taieri Pétanque Club Games.
But I CAN PLAY FROM THE SIDE AT THE START OF THE TAIERI PÉTANQUE CLUB COURTS.

I have contacted “Pétanque Taieri“, and they are happy for me and my supporters to use their facility FOR FREE, ON THE DAYS WHEN THEY DON’T HAVE THEIR CLUB DAYS (usual club days are on Wednesday and Sunday from 1pm).
We can use their Pétanque Courts, PROVIDED WE LEVEL ANY UNEVEN AREAS caused by pétanque balls and wheelchairs etc., SO ASSISTANCE WILL BE REQUIRED to leave the Taieri Pétanque Courts nice and tidy after each use.
ACCESS to the Pétanque Courts is via a gravel parking lot with deep puddles and thick gravel at places.
I have approached DCC to ask to have this parking lot upgraded, so it is accessible for wheelchair users.

I would like to get a group together of wheelchair users and their supporters, who would like to play pétanque in Mosgiel.

✨ A little flashback to a fab Tuesday last week!

What a day for our YAP members Betty and Aria from Taieri College , who represented the Taieri Youth Advisory Panel alongside Taieri Network at Otago Polyfest! 💛

They brought plenty of energy, curiosity and youth voice to the Taieri Network stall, inviting people to:

📍 Find YOUR Taieri — placing stars on our Taieri map to show where you live, work, go to school or spend time.

🗳️ Have your say — choosing the three things that matter most to you from housing, environment, youth spaces, health, wellbeing, safe communities and education.

💧 Guess the volume of our AWA— taking a guess at how much water is in our Taieri River! (Our cookie jar became the river, with chocolate fish swimming in blue jellybeans up for grabs for the closest guess 😆)

💭 Dream about the Taieri — sharing ideas about what people would like to see added, changed or improved across our community.

And the networking was awesome! Betty and Aria made some awesome connections, had the chance to speak on OAR FM, and even came away with an invitation for the panel to have their own podcast! 🎙️

A big thank you to Betty and Aria for giving their time, bringing their ideas and making the most of the opportunity. ❤️

And another big thanks and aroha to the "Dunedin City Council Community Partnerships" for inviting us along to their Polyfest space in the Village and making room for our young people to be part of the day.

📣 Lower Taieri Flood & Drainage Rates Review – deadline extended

The Otago Regional Council has extended the deadline for submissions on the proposed changes to how flood and drainage rates are shared across the Lower Taieri.

🗓️ New deadline: Friday 25 September 2026, 11:59pm

If you live in the wider Taieri including rural Taieri, Henley, Outram, Mosgiel and more, it’s worth taking a look at the proposal and seeing what it could mean for you.
