Happy ponies, happy kids! Matakana Pony Club is a not-for-profit club, relying on our members and fundraising to keep things going - with plenty of fun along the way!
Our Pony Care & Confidence Programme has just 2 spaces left! To make ponies more accessible to all keen young equestrians, we’ve reduced the membership fee. Due to next week’s weather forecast, we’ve moved the start date to Wednesday 21st October.

What a lovely evening for our first rally. Tonight was a casual intro for our new members. The sun shone, smiles all round ... a great start to the season.

It’s a GO, GO, GO for tomorrow! I checked the grounds this morning - aka the “squishy test” - and with just two of our groups tomorrow due to holidays, we’re all good to go! Woo hoo! Please park where Karen will be as grounds are more squiggy near the club house )blue float, red Hilux). For our potential new members, you’ll need to complete the Agreement for Casual Users, which covers insurance etc. until you become a full member. Welcome back, Toni Atkins! Toni has a long history with Matakana Pony Club, joining us as a coach back in 1989 before succeeding Laurel Morrison as Head Coach.
After continuing to teach our Adult Ride group, we’re delighted to welcome Toni back as a regular Dressage and Equitation coach at our junior rallies.
Toni’s coaching philosophy: "Dressage, in hand, along with the biomechanics of horse and rider, is the main focus of my coaching. I am a qualified ESNZ Dressage Judge. To watch horses and riders come together in balance, harmony and lightness is my goal. Knowledge is the key to the welfare of our horses."
We’re thrilled to have Toni’s experience, knowledge and passion back in the arena, helping our young riders develop their skills and understanding of their horses.
