Are you a hearing parent or guardian to a child who is Deaf or hard of hearing? Do you have thoughts about how and why you chose spoken language, and/or New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) as a language option for your child? Do you have ideas on how audiologists specifically can improve the discussions they have with parents and guardians about spoken language and/or NZSL?
My name is Janneke, I am currently doing a research project through the University of Canterbury as part of the requirements for my Master of Audiology degree. Please click on the link above to find out more about me and my background.
I am doing a research project on the perspectives of hearing Parents and Guardians of Deaf & Hard of Hearing Children, between the ages of 6 and 18. I want to know how audiologists have discussed language options (spoken language and/or NZSL) with you. I also want to know if you think audiologists could do things differently, identifying key points of how you think information about spoken language and NZSL should be presented, what information would be most useful and when you think would be the best time to receive that information.
Taking part in this project will involve a 1-1 interview with me, conducted online at a convenient time for you. You will also be asked to complete a brief survey once I have analysed data from the interviews I conduct.
If you would like to add your voice and your perspective to the discussion, please click on this link or scan the QR code below:
