Happy Feet Dance Group

Happy Feet Dance Group Happy Feet is a social and sequence dancing group in Levin. Originally it was held in the Ihakara Hall, but relocated to the Levin R.S.A.

Happy Feet Dance Group was founded by the late Himi & Piki Heremaia, Val and the late Lance Prisk, and Noleen Hayward in August 1994. in 2000 and has continued to go from strength to strength in the years since. In October 2015, the club relocated to its current home at the Levin & Districts Senior Citizens Hall in Cambridge Street, Levin. Modern and Old Time Sequence Dancing is a very popular for

m of social dancing. It is based on the ballroom and latin styles but everyone dances the same standardized sequences at the same time which makes for a very interesting and pleasurable activity. It is a great way to make new friends and keep mentally and physically active. The routines we dance are varied in complexity, but almost all are able to be picked up easily enough by joining in, or through our regular tuition and revision sessions.

A reminder to everyone that a special remembrance service celebrating Lorna’s life will be held in the Paraparaumu Memorial Hall commencing at 10am tomorrow (Saturday). Lorna has been a long time member of several dancing ‘families’, and will always be very fondly remembered - not least for her incredible style and elegance. She always cut a very glamourous figure gliding around the dance floor, and had such an easy going and friendly personality to match. It was clear to all of us that Lorna had such a love of dancing, whether it was rock & roll, line dancing, or sequence dancing. The dance floor - surrounded by her friends was definitely her happy place to be. As such, there is comfort in knowing that she left us doing what she loved - looking beautiful, enjoying the company of her dancing friends, enjoying lovely music, and dancing up a storm. At our dance following her passing, members of Happy Feet stood for a minute’s silence in her memory, and then started the dance programme with the Tango 44 - which was always one of Lorna’s favourites. Many stories have been shared since of the happy memories we all have of times spent in her company - and as long as dancing continues in the region, those stories and reflections will continue on. Lorna’s memory will dance on in all of us. May she rest in peace. 💃🕺

Thank you everyone for your understanding last night after we shut down the dance early due to the medical emergency. It was distressing for many of you, and I’m sure we’re all feeling it today. Your support last night was much appreciated ❤️

I was telling Don & Brenda last week that I’d been going through some old VHS tapes given to me by Jack Young, and came across a short clip of them doing a ballroom dancing demonstration at the 1998 Annual Ball of the Horowhenua Dance Club. They danced a Modern Waltz, Foxtrot, and Tango - sadly only the foxtrot was filmed, but it clearly shows what elegant and classy dancers they both were in their prime (and why they were previously national champions). They’ve always been beautiful dancers to watch, and have that rare skill of making complicated movements and steps look effortless and easy. Happy Feet is very lucky to still have them involved with our group, and even if they don’t dance as much as they used to, we always look forward to them acting as MCs!

What another magical night of great dancing and music we enjoyed on Saturday at our 1950’s/Rock n Roll themed monthly dance. MCs David & Anne put on a great show as always, and kept the good sized crowd on the floor all night, dancing their favourite routines - and of course a bit of rock n roll as well! Adding to the occasion, it also happened to be David’s special birthday - so naturally we couldn’t let that go without making a bit of fuss, and having him blow out the candles on his specially made birthday cake! Thanks once again to all our visitors that travelled some distance to attend - we love having your company! Thanks also to all those that helped out in making the evening such a great success.

No, we didn’t suddenly all get changed and undecorate the hall before the last dance - this was a video of everyone doing the Roselane Waltz at our Thursday night club dance. It was the last waltz of the evening, and it was lovely to see so many people still there to enjoy it!
