What an awesome day at Bush to Belly at Arahura Marae! 🌿🦌

A huge turnout, fantastic participation and plenty of enthusiasm from everyone who came along!

It was great to see so many people getting involved, learning new skills and connecting with the outdoors.

A massive thank you to the organisers, volunteers and everyone who helped make the day such a success. We're proud to have been part of it! 😁

Zak Shaw uses his professional kayaking experience to bring as much of his venison catch home as he can. 🦌The packraft carries the weight for the main part of the return journey and he can enjoy the scenery again this time from the river! 🛶 👀 As well as providing quality meat 🥩for the whanau, connecting to our amazing environment 🌿 is all positive for physical and mental health 🧠as well!

Nga Mihi! A massive heartfelt thank you to the Westland High School Hokitika 2026 Student Leaders Ball committee! ✨
Because of their incredible fundraising efforts for this year's School Ball event-styling, the committee achieved a fantastic amount of $ for their decorations kete. Generously they chose to donate their surplus funds as a koha to Kai Puku! 💌
This support directly helps us continue our mahi in the community. We are incredibly grateful for the connection, their leadership, kindness and community spirit is shown by these amazing rangatahi- kua pakeke haere koutou 💚 Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa, thank you for backing us!

🩵They have generously discounted a brand-new freezer for the cause which is another healthy step towards our growing donations of game venison.🦌🥩
It allows us to continue with the safe storage and distribution of this nutritious meat into our communities and ultimatly to hungry bellies.

We were thrilled to catch up with our whanau Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance at the National Hui last week. Lots of kai mo te hinengaro/food for thought with amazing presenters covering a range of topics directly related to our Food systems . One of the wonderful speakers (unfortunately not in photos) was Dtr. Jessica Hutchings; indigenous research and food sovereignty leader who reminded us of our responsibility to not only remember our direct connection to the earth and our soil but to acknowledge the treasure food is. These hui are a great cup filler as well and with 30+ food rescue organisations in the Alliance , we share, learn, realign and strengthen our purpose, goals and standards as well as being inspired by what others are doing for reducing food waste, increasing food security and reclaiming food sovereignty however large or small. He taonga te kai ✨

The Salvation Army Food Bank in Greymouth is one of our regular kai delivery drops. TSA Greymouth, have a dedicated team of busy volunteers putting in time, amongst other chores, to sort, store, prepare and bag food for those in need. Every Friday this dynamic duo 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️meet the Kai Puku van for handover and transport kai back to their Runanga Community House. Good things happening in Runanga, it takes a village 👏
