What an awesome Ovarian Cancer weekend there is coming up in May!

Starting on Friday May 8th with a Maintaining Healthy Skin and Hair evening at the Clock Tower Cafe followed by the annual Addisons Clothing Hokitika fashion parade on Saturday May 9th - all the details are in the posters below. And an awesome raffle sold across both events, all raising money and awareness for Ovarian Cancer research!

It really is humbling for us to have the support of these local businesses. A big shout out goes to Liz and the Addisons team, Traci from Aqua Fit, Carol from 360 Skin Studio, Jade from Haus of Blonde and the Clock Tower Cafe team - we truly appreciate all your support for this great cause.

85% of women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer are at late stage. Research is underway to develop an early diagnostic tool ...

K9 Medical Detection wants West Coast research participants - this involves a 15 minute interview in Hokitika, signing consent and participation forms and providing one urine sample. It is proposed that the nurse will come to Hokitika early June should we get enough eligible women signed up.

For the control (negative) group, they are seeking research participants who:
are post-menopausal and have undergone a hysterectomy and oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) or
have had an oophorectomy (with or without fallopian tube removal) or
are not known to have any gynaecological cancers or a family history of ovarian or breast cancer (grandmother, mother, siblings)) or
have benign ovarian cysts.

You can’t take part if you have a known mutation in either of the BRCA genes or unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding.
