Meet Tegan, a dedicated rower with goals of competing on the world stage.
Starting rowing at high school with a few friends has turned into building discipline and consistency in her training in order to achieve top results 🚣‍♂️

One of her proudest achievements so far is a comeback from a major injury. Not just the physical results, but not giving up mentally was a huge win considering her limitations and the big change in lifestyle that her rehab demanded.

This year Tegan is excited for the opportunity to trial for the New Zealand U23 World Champs and following where that takes her. She knows success can be found in personal achievements but is also aware that podium placing and results are a huge part of high performance rowing.

All the best Tegan. We look forward to following your upcoming season. Welcome to the Adastra whanau! ☺️

Meet Oli, a top performing surf lifesaving competitor from the Bay of Plenty 🌊

Starting in nippers when he was young, his love for both swimming and the ocean has turned into a passion for competition and service in the sport.

Wanting to get better and see how far he can go motivates Oli with training. Beyond the competitive side he understands the real responsibility that comes with surf lifesaving. ‘People’s safety actually matters’ he says.

One big lesson Oli has learnt is balance. Juggling the demands of studying and training loads has taught him valuable time-management skills. Looking ahead, he is excited about continuing to develop as an athlete, and embracing opportunities that come through university.

All the best for what’s to come Oli. Welcome to the Adastra whanau! ☺️

Meet Corban, a talented runner who is now pursuing high performance in cross country and on the track 🏃🏽

After years of doing well in running through his childhood, a year 9 teacher recognised his potential and encouraged him to take the sport seriously. That conversation sparked motivation to work hard and be the best athlete he can be.

For Corban, high performance means competing at the highest level and continuing to have exceptional results. But it’s also about learning through the difficult moments.

Looking ahead his goals are impressive. In 5 years he sees himself sponsored by Nike and lining up in the 1500m at the Olympic Games. This year he is focused on earning more opportunities to represent New Zealand and continuing to improve on his PBs.

All the best Corban. Welcome to the Adastra whanau ☺️

Meet Lily, a talented basketballer who started playing because she enjoyed standing on the sidelines watching her brother 🏀

From her first game in year 4 she loved it and knew it was something she would continue with. Since then the game has become a huge part of her life, shaped by the people who have supported her along the way.

One of her proudest moments so far has been pulling on the black jersey and representing New Zealand at the U17 Oceania Cup. This year marks another exciting chapter and she heads to Texas to achieve one of her biggest goals - playing College basketball in America 🧡

In 5 years time Lily sees herself finishing her College basketball career and pursuing the WNBA or opportunities to play in Europe. Success to her is about working hard to improve, reaching basketball goals and being proud of the effort she continues to put in as both a player and a person.

All the best Lily, we are excited to follow your journey. Welcome to the Adastra whanau! ☺️

Meet Raphael, a driven young badminton athlete from Hamilton with big goals 🏸

Introduced to badminton by his parents, he’s turned his love for the sport into a journey that has already seen him become a Junior International tournament winner in Slovakia and a Junior Oceania winner 👊🏼

The sacrifices from his parents and dreams of reaching the Olympics and a World Champs title keep him motivated. To perform at his best he knows the importance of staying calm and never giving up.

As he goes through his season Raphael talks about a recent lesson he learned “Even though you are training really hard it’s still best to have fun while you are at it and enjoy time with your teammates as they make it a better experience.”

This year he is excited to travel the world and meet people from other countries. We wish you all the best Raphael. Welcome to the Adastra whanau! ☺️

Meet Kathryn, a passionate young performer from Hamilton who is on a pathway full of opportunity and creativity 🎭

From putting on performances for family as a child to stepping confidently into the world of performing arts, dance has always been a huge part of her life. With the support and guidance of her dance teacher she’s continued to challenge herself to grow into the performer she is today 💃

Already recognised with the Evan McLennan trophy for Senior Excellence in Choreography, she is now focused on pushing herself even further. In 5 years time Kathryn hopes to be dancing in a professional crew or running a dance studio.

This year she is most excited about new opportunities, new experiences and the people she is going to meet. Lots of change is happening and she’s very excited.

Meet Hunter, a passionate basketball athlete whose journey started back in year 3 when a teacher encouraged him to give the game a go - he hasn’t looked back since 🏀

With a strong influence from his dad, who has always led by example, Hunters mindset is clear - hard work is a non-negotiable and nothing comes without it.

Surrounded by high level athletes, Hunter thrives in environments that challenge him to perform and grow. Always looking to learn, his focus is on soaking up as much knowledge as possible and trusting the preparation that’s been put in.

Welcome to Rebekah! An all-around talent in the performing arts. Musician, singer/songwriter, actor and dancer, she has and is doing it all 🎵

“I love discovering things I can do, it’s like something inside me waiting to be unlocked and I just need to find the key” she describes. With big goals in mind including a bachelors degree and music released on Spotify she is already establishing herself well in this world 🎤

High performance to Rebekah means pushing yourself to be better, allowing everything to be a learning experience. “An open mind is your greatest gift. Even the hard things grow you in ways” she says.

We look forward to following her very bright future. Welcome to the Adastra whanau Rebekah! ☺️
