The Adastra Foundation was established in 2007 to provide financial & mentoring support to extraordinary young New Zealanders in their performance pursuit.

The programme supports the personal development of young individuals with greater financial need.

Meet Lane, a talented footballer already competing at the international level. Football has always been part of her life with Dad as coach and her older brother playing. She joined her local club as soon as she was old enough ⚽️

Lane’s motivation comes from knowing the player she can become if she keeps working hard. She thinks about the future version of herself each time she trains. High performance to Lane means playing at the highest level. That could look like Division 1, the A-league, National League or representing New Zealand. That’s the standard she is chasing.

Her proudest moment so far has been playing for New Zealand in the U17 World Cup and stepping on to the field for the first World Cup game against Japan 🥅. “I would not be where I am today without my Dad. He has coached me for the majority of my footballing experience. The effort he has put in as both Dad and coach had improved my ability and belief in myself” she says.

Meet Jacob! A passionate performer who is involved in all things musical theatre. Singing, dancing, speech and drama were his entry points into taking the stage. He has spent the last few years training and developing his voice and performance skills with the goal of performing professionally 🎤

For Jacob, high performance means giving his best in every aspect of his craft and continually striving to improve. His motivation comes from wanting to be the best performer he can be and building a career doing what he loves 🎭

His journey has been shaped by a number of incredible tutors, each bringing different experiences and skills. One of his biggest highlights so far was taking on the iconic role of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys at Baycourt Theatre last year.

Meet Piper! A talented young lacrosse player who started when she was 12, following her friends to a middle school practice with no equipment and no idea what to expect 🥍

High performance for Piper is about embracing every opportunity. With lacrosse still developing its high-performance pathway in New Zealand, she has taken every opportunity and this year is heading to Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina, USA to study and play lacrosse.

Her proudest moments so far includes competing at the U20 Lacrosse World Champs in Hong Kong in 2024, as well as being selected for the New Zealand senior women’s lacrosse team for the World Champs qualifier in Australia last year.

Piper thrives when the pressure is on and embraces the challenge of playing tough opponents. Her key piece of advice she would give her younger self is to ‘train hard but make sure you enjoy it.’

Meet Georgia! Her rowing started at a year 9 learn-to-row programme she decided to give a go. Now her ambitions are to resent New Zealand at the highest level 🚣‍♂️

Georgia’s proudest moment so far is wearing the fern during the International Rowing Challenge in Michigan last year. Next she’s looking forward to going to the USA and rowing for a division 1 school. Although her accolades are growing Georgia has learnt that progress is not linear. “I used to always expect myself to be improving but in reality there are always ups and downs, that’s just part of the journey” she says 🖤

Looking back she would tell her younger self to make the most of every moment. Race days, painful erg sessions with teammates, laughs, long rows - ‘it’s easy to get caught up in pressure and results but don’t take these smaller moments for granted, they go by faster than you think.’

Georgia is competitive and works hard to achieve results. Success for her looks like crossing the finish line first. It looks like consistency and discipline in the gym, on the erg and on the water. It looks like doing the work to put her best foot forward on race day.

Meet Tess!! A rising star in canoe slalom which all started at the AIMS games in year 7 🛶

For Tess high performance is about being consistent, tenacious, adaptable, focused and goal orientated. Her first canoe slalom coach has had a huge impact on her journey. They supported her development through the sport and helped shape her into the athlete she is now.

Her biggest lesson so far has been the importance of focusing on the positives. This mindset helps Tess to perform at her best. Success for her looks like continuous improvement. It’s not about one specific outcome.

This year she is most excited about the possibility of studying and training overseas - opening up opportunities on and off the water.

Meet Luca, a dedicated young athlete with big ambitions and a clear vision for his future. He grew up surrounded by sport, with parents who encouraged him to get involved in as many as possible 🏀🏐

Luca’s motivation to train hard comes from the dream of one day playing professional sport and building a career from his talent. He knows that high performance requires commitment on and off the court.

This year he is most excited about travelling around the world to compete, taking these opportunities to gain experience and get closer to his goals. One of Luca’s proudest moments so far came when he was selected for a New Zealand age group squad ⚪️⚫️

Meet Fletcher, a talented mountain biker with big ambitions and a love for the sport that keep him chasing new levels every season 🚵

Introduced to mountain biking by his parents at a young age, Fletcher quickly found a passion for racing. From claiming the NZ U23 title to placing 19th at the World Champs last season he is already proving himself on the international stage 👏🏼

Driven by the success from hard work and the enjoyment he finds on his bike, he continues to push forward towards his long-term goal of being a cyclist. This year he’s excited to return to Canada again and having another crack at the World Champs 🌍
