Te Wiki o te Reo Māori at Greytown Early Years
Kia kaha te reo Māori!
At Greytown Early Years, we celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori by continuing to embrace te reo Māori as a living language woven through our everyday programme. Through play, conversation, waiata, karakia, storytelling, and meaningful interactions, our tamariki experience te reo Māori in authentic and joyful ways.
Our philosophy values whakapapa, whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, rangatiratanga, and kaitiakitanga, creating opportunities for children to develop a strong sense of identity, belonging, and connection to Aotearoa New Zealand. By incorporating te reo Māori into daily routines and play experiences, we help tamariki build confidence with the language while fostering respect and appreciation for Māori culture and perspectives.
We know children learn best through meaningful experiences. Whether they are singing waiata, exploring nature, sharing stories, greeting one another in te reo Māori, or learning the names of local plants and birds, tamariki are developing language naturally through curiosity, play, and relationships.
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is a wonderful reminder that every word counts. Together with our whānau, we are helping to nurture a love of te reo Māori and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that makes Aotearoa unique.
He taonga te reo Māori. Let's use it, celebrate it, and keep it thriving for future generations.
💚 Mā te kōrero ka ora te reo
By speaking the language, the language lives.
