Two pieces of New Zealand Olympic history are going under the hammer to raise funds for Otago Community Hospice!

A training snowboard belonging to Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and a signed Paris 2024 Olympic team shirt from Alexandra kayaker Finn Butcher will be auctioned at the annual Pioneer Energy Central Otago Dinner Club on Friday, 16 October, at the Packing Shed, Earnscleugh.

The event is sold out, but both items are listed on Trade Me, so bidders from anywhere in the country can take part.

Sadowski-Synnott is the most decorated snowboarder in Olympic history, with five Olympic medals. Her board is a Burton Blossom she rode in the lead-up to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. It still carries her personal BOA and Air Time Podcast stickers and comes with a signed letter of authentication.

Her honours include the 2022 Supreme Halberg Award, Sportswoman of the Year in 2025 and 2026, five Otago Supreme Awards, and appointment as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2023.

Butcher won gold in the men's kayak cross at the Paris 2024 Olympics. His signed team shirt is a summer counterpart to Sadowski-Synnott's winter memorabilia, and both items come from Central Otago athletes.

All funds raised will support Otago Community Hospice's care in Central Otago.

Mercy’s story began with Catherine McAuley and two companions; today, it’s carried out by hundreds of thousands of people in hospitals, schools and community programs across the globe.

Sept. 24th, marked 199 years since Sisters of Mercy Founder Catherine McAuley opened the House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland. Its doors have remained open since 1827 to serve the poor, sick and uneducated.

Nearly two centuries later, we continue Catherine’s legacy of caring and compassion, not only within Mercy’s hospitals and clinics, but also within our communities where the need remains great.
