One of the requests we had from the CCC was to cut specific harakeke in a culturally appropriate manner.

This is a strength of our lawn maintenance team and part of our contract work with Ngai Tahu and other valued customers who endeavor to ensure this taonga is valued and cared for in a culturally appropriate manner.

Teaming up with the CCC on a massive clean up of the gardens around the visitors carpark in Victoria Park has allowed us to offer some motivated rangatahi the chance to work under Todd in our lawn maintenance division for some casual employment during their school holidays.

Even our CEO is out doing his bit to support our teams and beautify the city's parks and reserves.

Way to long since we posted sorry team, but here's a blast from the past.

Chris Casserly popped out to have lunch with us a few weeks ago.

Chris and his whanau has a long history at Wai-Ora and in another life Chris was a supervisor of our Community Works Team.

His mother Larrianne held church services in our smoko room and his father Pat and Ricky's dad were thick as thieves as they designed and built most of the structures around the property and also up at the Kaikoura farm....with bush permits!

Chris and Ricky have been friends for over 40 years, not only did they dive together but Chris was also a minister and was the celebrant for Ricky and Cindy's NZ wedding in 1997, which was held on the grounds of Wai-Ora.

It was great to catch up with Chris and reminisce about the old days and catch him up where we are at 45 years after we were founded in 1981.

We may be a little greyer but maybe also a little wiser!

🌱 Growing good things for our community🌱

On Friday our team of Wednesday volunteers headed out for lunch together. Sadly not everyone could make it but those that did enjoyed kai and a few laughs.

These amazing wahine, and those who weren't able to make it, are the ones that come and fill kai boxes, sort and repackage bulk items into smaller bags and cook our weekly Wednesday community lunches.

They are an amazing group who love to banter as they work.

Thank you so much to all our volunteers and especially our Wednesday kai box crew!

We're hiring in our Nursery too — casual nursery hand,

Ever wondered where the plants for wetland restorations and native reserves actually come from? Our nursery. And we need a hand.

Fair warning on what the job really involves: there's a lot of moving plants.

Potting, pricking out, w**ding, filling orders — and shifting stock around the site all day long. You need to be physically strong and happy on your feet.

It's outdoor work in Canterbury too, rain included. We supply the wet weather gear, you supply the willingness to get out in it.

No experience needed but if you know your natives that's a real bonus.

Turn up, get stuck in, be keen to listen and learn and you'll do well here.

Casual hours, so it suits someone after flexible work, though the right person might end up working here for life!

Based. entirely at our Harewood nursery.

At Wai-Ora our kaupapa is people healing the land, heals people — and every plant you'd handle here ends up restoring a wetland, a reserve or a stream bank somewhere in Canterbury with the added bonus that the money from sales go straight back to supporting the community through the Wai-Ora Trust.

It's work you can feel good about.

Keen?

If your keen, dont sent us a message, flick Ricky an e-mail along with your CV to [email protected]
